Automation - does it work !!

I'm working in 7.1.1 and the automation is doing my head in - buggy / random / making my life hell.

 

I have 7.2 ready to upgrade - (cloning / removing dodgy wave plugins has been keeping me from doing it).

 

QUESTION:

 

Does the automation work any better in 7.2.3 - it seems to suggest on apple that it does but on other forums ive been told otherwise.

 

Any info much appreciated.

7.2.1 was a much more stable release than 7.2.0.

 

7.2.2 and 7.2.3 are only for quad core mac users.

 

I don't find automation buggy as long as I keep my song start at 1 1 1 1. What kind of bugs are you suffering?

oh - ididnt know that - so if im PPC G5 DC its only worth running 7.2.1 ?

 

When i move multiple items with automation the automation data is changed /lost / different - its so random. Moving an individual item is ok but group select or as I am trying to do - Select all following - it just f***s it up.

 

I'm working on a soundscape and the client is requesting changes here and there - its stuffed full of automation and everytime i try to move just to insert a small edit it changes all the automation that ive spent days over......

 

personally i think its quite shameful on Logic.....

 

so 7.2.1 will be better ?

its quite depressing reading that thread really - im not sure how to finish this job.... 10mins of 300 + sounds all automated ........ and the client is like - oh can you just insert this and that...... its killing me.

Here's a trick that will hopefully help: If you hold Control-Option-Shift while dragging over a part of the automation, it will create two nodes on either sides of the dragged area. You can then easily Option-drag to copy that part somewhere with hopefully less damage to adjoining areas...?

thanks david altho that hasnt really seemed to help in my case.

 

ive been experimenting with everythinmg i can think of to see if there are any parameters to this bug - nodes only on regions / deleting unused nodes and many other attempts to see if there is any Logic behind it...... there seems none.

 

I have changed my song start position to 1111 and that didnt make any difference.

 

In general would you say that it is more stable in 7.2.1 than 7.1.1 ?

Anyway you could maybe post a screenshot of what you mean? I can't tell if that's what I'm experiencing, which is simply that Logic moves the nodes, and then interpolates new segments between old and new nodes.

your notice that track 7 & 8 have not moved correctly. It always seems to be several tack that don't work whilst many do. I 'm also notice wierdness with updating the automation view once you've moved - ie re selecting the data and it remains a faint outline rather than the bold colour it normally uses.

I've had that problem before, but I always thought it was tied to the song start marker placed before 1 1 1 1. I haven't suffered that kind of problem lately, but I usually just fix the automation by hand or redraw it after the whole song is arranged in general... because of the other problem I mentioned...

 

I can't tell you if it's a problem specific to 7.2.0 and if 7.2.1 will or won't fix it, it's just a better release in general, and I highly recommend it. However, if you are in the middle of a project, I wouldn't recommend starting upgrading now.

Im gonna re do it all with hyperdraw for volume and bounce down exsisting Plugin automation.

 

Hopefully it will work.

You can also use "Convert all track automation to regions" and then move the regions. (From Options > Track Automation)
