Multi-timbral plug-in woes...

Hi,

I've been using Logic for a while now (7.2.3), but I've only recently found the need to use a multi-timbral virtual instrument.

Is there a way I can separate the MIDI channels of a 16 channel, multi-timbral plugin, and have the ability to control the MIDI data on individual tracks in the arrange window? If so, how?

Many thanks in advance. :)

Hi David, thanks for the reply...

I've tried the 'Track > Create' route, but when I try to change the MIDI channel, it changes every track to the same new MIDI channel number. Is there a way around this?

I'm going to check out that file on the other thread, in the meantime.

Thanks.

David, I've had a look at the file you posted, and it seems a bit complicated to me. I've been getting away with not having to use the Environment for a long time now, so I'm a bit lost.

I should also note that the multi-timbral instrument I'm using has mono, stereo and multi channel outputs, but I'm only going to be using stereo. That file you've uploaded is orientated to plug-ins with multi audio outputs, or so it would seem.

Any chance you could dumb things down a bit for me? I do want to learn more about the Logic Environment, but one step at a time... :D

If you don't have time to dumb it down for me, do you know of any useful and simple, step by step guides?

Thanks. 8)

An alternative is to ceate the tracks and assign the midi channel from either the scor or matrix window.

If you have a Bass on channel two in your multi, select all notes and change channel to 2.

Can do it in event list too.

You need to have the track set to All though.

You can even cycle through your instruments on the same track by assigning midi cgannels to individual notes. Some plug-ins demand it even!

If you don't need to use multiple outputs then it is much easier: you can simply cable a multi-instrument into an Audio Instrument. That's all the environment you're going to have to do.

• Open the environment.

• Choose New > Multi-instrument

• Option-click its little triangle output (top right) and choose the Audio Instrument you want to control.

• Drag and drop the multi-instrument (clicking on its name at the bottom) to your Arrange window to create the tracks.

Thanks for the replies, I'll try out your suggestions a little later, and of course I'll post back with the results.

Thanks very much for your help. I'm pleased I found this forum. :)
