  1. Thanks David! - so - there's a gap in the market for some clever programmer! I'm about to dive into NI Reaktor in the next few months - I believe it has a number of step sequencers available. I wonder how one interacts with any one of those within a DAW environment, and how they trigger sounds?
  2. Does anyone know if there's a step sequencer MIDI plugin effect available for Logic - similar to the Arpeggiator provided with Logic Pro X - but - a Step Sequencer that can be inserted into the track as a MIDI effect? Thanks.
  3. Thanks David - that's all very clear and helps a lot. I was confused with you saying I could insert an external effect in the Output Insert slot - I thought I had to route to another aux channel (not possible from the Output) - but on checking the manual (!) see that it's now possible in Logic to route out to and back in from an external effect via the Insert slot on the Output channel alone. I'm clearly well out of date regarding Logic's capabilities. But all your answers help and really appreciate it. I was one of the very first people to sign onto the forum when you founded it, but for some reason I can't really explain, I have been outrageously slow in getting to grips with Logic. perhaps it's the huge volume of hardware I use and wishing to integrate (and hence needing the power of recent computers to cope) - but in any case it's starting to make sense and a very nice Logic based setup (controlling several dozen synths) is emerging. Your answers here now allow me to integrate the still exquisite Finalizer 96k into the process. Cheers! Kevin.
  4. Hi David - In this setup I'm using a Profire 2626 with S/PDIF in and out - so the digital I/O is not an issue (to LPX latest version on a top notch MBP). I have a Finalizer96K and want to use it for the Mastering of stereo mixes in Logic, and wonder how people actually do that My question pertains to work flow in logic. Despite my years on this forum I am, honestly, still only getting to know Logic Pro in actual projects. So here are some of the issues I'm seeing: The Master Out has no insert so I can't place it there The Output Channel Strip has an insert slot but can I place it there? If I'm "Bouncing" can that be routed through the Finalizer? I suspect (but would like confirmed) that I will mix, then bounce, and then create a new Logic session, bringing in the bounced wav as a stereo audio track and then perhaps add the finaliser as an ordinary insert effect and master there? But can I then bounce once again, with the external processor doing its thing? Overall - what't the best way to do this in terms of work flow, Logic usage, and how does bouncing work? Do you see my confusions? It's rookie naivety on my part, not hardware or I/O issues Thanks, as always, for your time (and that of anyone who replies). Very best, Kevin. PS - I'll fill in my signature with those details for sure.
  5. What's the best way of incorporating an external hardware mastering effects processor such as Finalizer96K in Logic Pro X? The objective is to use it as a mastering processor - either during bouncing (if possible?) or to bring a bounced mix back into a new Logic session as a stereo wav and then master it. Anyone got any advice on how to do this, and good practice when doing it? Thanks, Kevin.
  6. I wonder if anyone is running Logic Pro on two computers? If so - how do you make your plugin patches / programs available to both computers? Is there a way to sync them, store them in one central location and back them up that way? Indeed, I would appreciate any good advice on how to manage, track and backup plugin personal patches. Thanks, Kevin.
  7. Aha - a very smart idea (that's why I wouldn't have thought of it). Clear once you make the point - and very powerful. I'm new to this - so clearly applying a sledge hammer to a nut in my thinking right now - so thanks for that excellent idea - VERY much appreciated - thank you! I'm suddenly excited about this again (and there are other advantages to VE Pro that you've highlighted in this thread and I've read elsewhere, so clearly a platform to be embraced ). Thanks! Very best, Kevin.
  8. Thanks- I asked because you posted your message a day after my post, but the previous post was in late April - hence why I thought you were posting to me! Thanks for the information. That's a great pity. Even buying another 1/2 price license of such libraries is too expensive for most. I read about VE Pro with great enthusiasm only recently - thinking that it provided a mechanism to harness the CPU and RAM of other 'slave computers'. Unfortunately it isn't that. The other systems VE Ensemble communicates with are just other systems - fully paid for in all respects - synced via audio and MIDI to your main system - so VE Pro isn't really offering anything at all from the true "slave system" stand point since the user has to pay out multiple times for all licenses. A pity - it looked good (until I understood what it really is). It would be far more cost effective (and ultimately work flow efficient) to buy a single, more powerful computer. Appreciate your clarity on it. Cheers, Kevin.
  9. Hi Ashermusic, Im just replying out if courtesty - and out of a little confusion. Can I ask you if your reply of May 30th is to my post on the 29th? If so, I cant make sense of it. my questions were more general, about the necessity on whether required to do extra installs and acquire extra licenses on slave systems, but I cant find answers to my questions in your reply. So if you were replying to me, thanks - but I'm utter lost - and wonder if you could indicate whether plugin and sample library installs are needed to be replicated on each slave system, and whether multiple licenses need to be purchased.m Apologies if this is obvious to you and I seem dumb, but having even checked out the VSL web site and youtube setup tutorials, none explain the very basics to new potential users like me, regarding what preliminarty plugins, sample library and license issues need to be sorted for VE Pro to be actually used. Thanks, Kevin.
  10. Hi - I'm considering VE Pro but am confused about the slave computer setup: - do you need to install on the slave system the likes of Logic Pro, and any desired plugins to run on the slave system? I ask because I want to use VE Pro to provide more EastWest Sample Library instruments in my master computer Logic Pro session, but I have Eastwest Play installed only on my master system, and the EastWest Library content on a Thunderbolt external HD also connected to my Master system (a top end MBP). I do not want to install anything unnecessary on my slave (a second MBP); most especially a second set of the sample content! So - can I have my slave MBP work as a slave to VE-Pro / Logic Pro on my master computer; with nothing installed on the slave - and have VE Pro 'farm' out the slave instances to the slave computer. Likewise - can I farm out an instance of, say, Omnisphere 2 to my slave MBP via VE Pro without having actually installed Omnisphere 2 on my second slave computer? If installs are required - how do you get around the licensing of these - all my licenses are bound to my master computer via eLicense, iLok and so forth. Do you have to buy second licenses for the slave computer to use VE Pro? Overall, I'm confused about how much has to be installed on the slave computer - my initial understanding (seemingly wrong) was than nothing had to be done on the slave computer other than install VE Pro - but having read this thread, you seem to be suggesting that anything that will be run on the slave computer must be installed on the slave computer? Is that the case. Thanks. Kevin.
  11. Thank you! Checking the web site description and and SOS review reveal it to be sound. Appreciate the pointer - cheers!
  12. Thanks Eric, very interesting. Do you use it? Do you know if it's good?
  13. Can Logic Pro X use Nodes or some equivalent across two computers?
  14. Hmmm - this is the forum for Logic and nobody has an answer to the issue I'm trying to sort? For anyone in a similar predicament - I'm about to post the same question on SOS Mac Music Forum - perhaps someone there can help?
  15. Anybody willing to help on this? (I'm sure it'll be of general help to many). Thanks !
