  1. UPDATE: Further investigation makes me quite sure there's nothing wrong with my template. The problem lies elsewhere. It would be interesting to know if anyone can repeat this error. 1. Start Logic, create new empty project. Confirm all ports are present in Physical Input inEnvironment>Click and ports. 2. Save this project under any name. 3. Quit Logic. 4. Start Logic and open the newly created project using the "Startup/What do you want to do" dialog by clicking OK with "Open most recent project" selected. Check which ports are present in in Physical Input in Environment>Click and ports. 5. Repeat 3 (you must quit Logic) + 4 but open the project the traditional way. Cancel the "Startup/What do you want to do" dialog and use the traditional "File>Open" instead. Check which ports are present. In my case I get only the "sum" port using method 4. but all my ports using method 5. If anyone can repeat this error it's nothing wrong with my setup but a real bug in Logic and the Startup dialog. Otherwise I suspect my MC Mix software which creates four virtual midi ports.
  2. No, unfortunately not. The new physical input has only a "sum". However, and now it's getting quite interesting, while doing this by accident I found that if I skip (press cancel) the screen "Startup/What do you want to do" and open my template (or a project based on the template) the more traditional way all ports are there! So it seems my problem only occurs when using the "Startup/What do you want to do" screen. Some problem in my template coincide with a possible bug in that particuilar startup sequence but not other startup sequences.
  3. -->> My initial suspicions were wrong please go down to the fourth post starting with the word "UPDATE:". Upon starting Logic using my own personal template all midi ports are gone in the Environment, only "sum" is present in the physical input object. Starting Logic using an empty project or some other default template the ports are there. Observations: - Logic still recieves midi from external midi hardware. So the midi is coming through but only via the "sum". - The appropriate ports are visibile in ports menues but greyed out. So Logic knows they exist but doesn't seem to reach them. - Snoize Midi Monitor sees the ports corretly. - If I restart midi from inside Logic (and refresh the Environment view) the ports show up. So obviously something is wrong with my template and since it was a bit of work to set up I'd like to find the source of the problem without starting up from scratch. Any ideas what could be the cause of ports disappearing like this? It's like Logic fails to initialize midi properly using my template.
  4. Not sure that will save much time but thanks. It's an idea i hven't thought of. Might be useful in some other cases.
  5. That's definitely useful in some cases. Still if I want to separate multiple channels going into the same fx I can't use that method. Also, since it mixes all channels, it might take too long just to get hold on some aux sends.
  6. Yes, that's how I do it at the moment. It includes: - Soloing aux. - Muting tracks sent to that aux I don't want to print to the current file. - Bounce. - Import. - Create new audio track. - Place imported file on new audio track. - Mute the original send. If I need to do this many times it's a bit time consuming. I know there are a lot of new tricks to bounce in place and stuff like that. So I thought there might be a smarter way to do the aux-bounce but couldn't figure out one. Maybe there isn't. Thanks anyway.
  7. I have an aux effect channel (like a reverb) and I want to bounce this separately (fx only) to file and then import it to a new audiochannel. Which would be the easiest/quickest way to do this? I can think of various methods but they all include many steps. I've learned that sometimes people here have amazing tricks up their sleeves
  8. Is there a way to gather favourite plugins (Logic's or AU) in one place? That would minimize the need to walk all the way down in the drop down menues all the time for the one's I use the most.
  9. Ah yes, great to have a key command too. Seems like a lot of people weren't aware of all the functions in the arrange pop up...
  10. I got this problem solved in another forum. http://www.logic-users-group.com/forums/showthread.php?p=26114#post26114 I didn't realize there's a difference between the pop-up command "Shuffle Left" and having "Drag: Shuffle L" activated while dragging. So: The popup (Ctrl click in arrange) "Move>>Shuffle Left" does exacctly what I was asking for. Problem solved.
  11. Thanks Eric I actually started doing something like that. And it works most of the time but not on regions which are takefolders. Edits on those can't be reversed or glued back. Although this isn't really solved I believe we can't get much further. The functionality I was asking for is simly somthing Logic doesn't have it seems. Thanks for all the help.
  12. OK, thanks. Although not very practical that either since there's no way to automatically (or using key command) align the anchor to either playhead or another regions anchor or left border. If I need to adjust the anchor in more than one region I believe the manual alignment described earlier is faster. Seems there's no way to do what I'm seeking. I'd think it's a pretty common situation I'm describing. I often find myself having overlapping regions on transitions like this. But maybe it's that normally most project have a grid based timeline.
  13. This is how I'd like things to look like. The upper regions should snap to the regions on the left on the same tracks. The lower overlapping regions doesn't need to snap to anything since there's nothing else on those tracks. Here I made the alignment manually by moving and zooming to higher resolution repeatedly. That's time consuming. I'd be very happy if I could have som kind "snap" or key command. This is how I'd like things to look like. The upper regions should snap to the regions on the left on the same tracks. The lower overlapping regions doesn't need to snap to anything since there's nothing else on those tracks.
  14. Sorry but that doesn't work either. The problem are still the (to be) overlapping regions at the bottom. I want to move these in the same command since they are to be syncronized to the other regions. Following Eric's idea those lower regions will "snap" to the playhead but it's the upper regions I want to snap to playhead.
  15. That does not work. The two overlapping regions makes that option behave very strange. It will make the left set of regions pop to the right side of the right set of regions that I'm originally try to shuffle left. Either try for yourself or look at the picture. It's quite strange.
  16. In the picture I want to snap the right regions to the ones on the left. Since some of the regions to the right will overlap (the lower two) I can not use "tie". Is there another way to make the regions to snap to each other? (This project has no midi based timeline. It consists only of unsyncronized audio so there are no tics or divisions to use.) I want the regions in the red ring to snap to each other but I want to keep the relative positions of the two longer regions in the bottom.
  17. Yes, that's probaby true. I see you find many of the automatic features in Logic very useful. That proves they are well designed. But sometimes people need to use a different workflow for various reasons and in these cases automatic behaviour can be very irritating. I believe automatic behaviour should always be possible to turn off. The programmers can never predict all useful workflows. Another related example - but where there's an option: Normally if I change track, Logic will select the regions on that track. This is an automatic behaviour that makes sense. However the makers have realized that there might be cases where you want to select another track but keep the current region selection. For that reason there's an option to turn this feature off. They should use this philosophy more...
  18. Yes it can be useful to have catch turned off when zooming - sometimes. Problem is (if I wan't to decide manually to have it on or off) it doesn't turn on when zooming back out. I guess the "Catch when Logic starts" is a form of compensation for the fact that zooming sometimes turns of catch for people who don't want that to happen. In my opinion zooming should always be centered round the playhead. The whole scrolling and zooming behaviour would be more predictable that way.
  19. The on/off behaviour of the catch function in Logic is a bit strange. 1. All catch options in preferences unchecked. I should be able to manually deicide whether to have it turned on or off. For some strange reason when it's turned on (blue man) it automatically turns off when zooming in/out. I can't see any reason for this. 2. Also when "Catch when moving playhead" is checked zoom will also turn off catch. Same problem, what is the point? 3. Finally what's he option "Catch when Logic starts" function. Isn't that the same as having it activated all the time. I mean, catch only makes a difference when transport is running anyway. I'd really like to be able to decide for myself to have catch on or off. To have it work all manually but there's no way to do that. Is it?
  20. In the environment, cable the first ES1 channel strip into the second one. Tweak the first ES1, the second one is now coupled. Great idea! That will solve other "stereo situations" I've had also...
  21. I did But tweaking got kind of timeconsuming...
  22. There were seven zones created by Logic, but - sorry for wasting your time - I just found there was a tiny piece of region just before the first beat. So the region was actually not one bar exactly. That was the problem. I did check that the end of the bar was aligned but never thought of checking the start...
  23. That's one BROAD question. There are literally hundreds of those out there. But - to narrow it down - are there any with stereo capabilities? Es1 is in mono. Or are all sidechains in Logic (although they are stereo busses) in mono?
  24. Hello. I converted an audioloop to midi/exs24 using: Audio>Convert regions to new sampler track. My project is beatmapped to an old and very unstable rhythm. Varying BPM. If I create some midi myself and then loop it (ticking loop in inspector) this rhythm will follow the changes in bpm, which is the point with beat mapping. But the audiofile converted to midi/exs will not follow the changes in bpm. It seems to have an absolute length. What can I do?
