  1. I got one a while back... and it fits fine... Mine is an older keyboard... and it fits just about perfectly. ?????
  2. For me, 8.01 was the most problematic. but that could've been 3rd party plugs... I've since wiped everything clean and did a new logic install. The mixer screen's been better... But the arrange window still stutters, which is fine with me, as long as the machine's actually recording. So far, all my tests have been good. Logic's recording to the tracks i've armed, and after the take, the regions are still there. Whew! Thanks for the advice and the help folks... I'd dry up and die of this forum wasn't around. zack
  3. is anyone else having this problem? I don't mind the screen grain or segmented regions... i but the odd recording behavior is a bit more than distressing. thanks zack
  4. This is what i get when recording audio... super sketchy visual arrange window. and stuttered recording regions. The 8.0.2 update was perfect the first three times i ran it... super snappy visuals, I thought all my troubles were gone... then 3 straight system crashes that gave me the grey screen prompt : You must shut down your computer...." In addition, I'd say 60% of the time, the rec arm button will set itself to off when i hit record. Say i've got 8 tracks rec armed only one will remain in rec mode as the computer goes into record. I've triple checked the routing on these channels to make sure there were no routing problems... and all was well it's just an intermittent problem that keeps popping up. A couple days ago the tracks I was recording disappeared completely when the take was done. The undo history showed that the action had occurred, but there was no way to retrieve the files. the mythic and dreaded "lost take". I'm running 10..4.11 on a dual 2.66 dual core intel xeon with 3 gigs of ram. Tracking drives are internal sata 7200 rpm western digital Interfaces - metric halo 2882+dsp and an rme adi 8io.. tracking at 24 bit 44.1 ... Nothing too taxing.... I'm just about to throw the towel in on Logic... it's been beating me down at every turn.... straight from the box... i've had more glitches and coughs and sputters than should be expected. Playback is seems fine... If there ever is a CPU spike it's the 4th processor. [image too large - deleted by moderator - please edit this message and re-upload a smaller image]
  5. Is there a way to cut and paste a region in an exact location?? "cut and paste_____" oh how i hope there is. dig zack
  6. Camillo I hear you. something user definable just seems to make sooo much more sense than all the "presets".. For the kind of offset i've got to do to line tape up... i kind of need to be able to define exactly where the region goes to line up. unless it's a drum track that's pretty easy to do visually... I've put out some feelers.. on other boards but so far nothing better than the expert sleepers plugins... if you find something out shout it out so the whole internet can hear you! dig zack
  7. fader8 you are the king! Thanks for the heads up on expertsleepers and setting the anchor points too... slick! I do admit that i was hyper focused on the nudge function and knew there had to be other ways to get this done. thanks again. dig zack
  8. menu drop downs would be cool.. but the key command access is fine IF i could set it up to do what I NEED it to do. Anyone??? I realize this might be baby-step-stupid simple.. but i've spent time with the manual - nothing really there and done a bundle of searches here. Other than the nudge command I'm lost as far as moving regions by a user defined amount... Manually picking up and moving the regions, just isn't going to cut it. a thousand thanks in advance. zack
  9. I'm having a world of trouble with this one... Working on L8.01 and can't seem to be able to set the NUDGE value. I'm tracking through a 16 track deck... and sending the signal from the Repro head to Logic... I need to account for the time it takes for the tape to travel at 15ips from the record head to the repro head and then bump the tracks forward in time by that specific amount. I split the signal from a dynamic mic, to the deck and straight into the computer.. tapped the mic... and created a region from the direct to DAW transient to the tape delayed transient to find my nudge value. This is a quick and easy thing to do in Protools.. and I'm sure it is in logic too.. but i'm just not finding it. I've found the nudge key commands but can't figure out how to nudge my regions by a user defined amount... In my case 0.0.0.09.06 smpte frames/seconds? or 0.0.0.2217 samples? is it. And while i'm asking.. is there an easy way to figure out the length of a region for time calculation purposes?? THanks. zack
  10. 10,4,11 here with a dual core xeon 2.66 L8 is buggy.... multi-track audio edits in the arrange window are filled with road-blocks. visually the mixer doesn't have active meters from time to time... very random. i was hoping leopard would help. I'll try the pro-app update.. my fingers are crossed ....
  11. i've never used freeze track and the meters don't engage. but i'll keep that in mind as a solution. this problem has triggered for me even with an extremely low track count... say 4 tracks.
  12. well yes.... that is well understood... but is there something on the user end that i might be able to head off at the pass? as far as i can tell, the input monitoring button seems to have an effect on the problem.. i'd like to avoid triggering the problem if at all possible.
  13. To reconfirm... this behavior (migrating edit points) gets WORSE if you a turn the group on and off again ... with the record function tab engaged. I'm not sure if the bug goes away if the record group tab is off... but i'll be sure to keep that in mind next time around. arrrrgh.
  14. How about a sticky for audio editing tips/tricks and the dreaded Bugs and workarounds?
  15. Sooo if i'm understanding you correctly this particular problem happens when a group of tracks has the "record" tab activated? If i've got a grouping of tracks and that function isn't armed i should be ok?? thanks zack
  16. revalver... WOW! do the tubes choices actually do the deal? I'd imagine they would.... very impressive. I'd like to play around with that for a while. sounds pretty amazing. thanks for the info!
  17. GAP sounds like a guitar amp. Amplitube sounds like a multifx pedal to me.... you know it's got everything, but nothing is really awesome.... That being said amplitube does have some pretty cool effects AND does excel at distortion. But i was never able to make it work on guitars... LOVEed it on drum loops though. and distorted or affected vocals. indeed! I don't know about the others out there but GAP is the only one out there that's been able to hang with the tracks i've recorded with decent guitars/amps/mics/space. If your space is hashy, or you don't have the ability to crank up an amp i think GAP is a totally viable solution...that's pretty hard to beat. And I don't even mind it for high gain stuff... it's flexible as all get out. and the rotating speaker/vibe trem/verb are all really nice.
  18. I'd be lying if i said it happens all the time to me... but i'd bet that 65% of the time there are NO meters on at least a few tracks. This is very distracting and really shouldn't be happening. I do like how the gui looks but it's more important that it WORKS!!! The only comfort i'm able to take in knowing that other folks are having the same trouble.... is that i'm not going crazy.... or at the very least, i'm being driven crazy by logic's idiosyncratic behavior. Could this be RAM related?? I'm rocking a mac pro dual core 2.66 duo but only have a gig of ram??
  19. I've been twisting my concept of reality over this EXACT problem. thanks so much for posting the screen movie.... man that made me feel so much less crazy. Is there a work-around or some sort of solution to this trouble? i had a little luck using the marquee tool to select edit points and the erase tool to trim them up. But... it would be much more efficient to have it work as intended. I'm very new to L8 and logic period. But i NEED clean and easy multi-track edits otherwise i'm going to have to go back to PT... and i do not want to do that. thanks!
  20. i understand and see what you're talking about. thanks for the info. i wasn't aware of the binaural options until exploring this a little deeper. very cool. thanks david.
  21. ok... here goes. You'll notice that all the channels are mono. but still have the surround pan controller. in the upper left part of the screen capture... you'll see the pop-up window that you get when you double click on the pan controls. I'd like the surround pan on all channels actually... it's pretty great. They've got all sorts of parameters within the pop-up window that govern HOW the pan behaves, front to back, side to side... within the circle... shapes etc.. it's logic 8.01(1474.12)
  22. In the mixer window... If i change a channel from mono to surround, i get a surround channel.. default goes to outputs 1-2. So if i change the channel BACK to mono, the pan control is STILL a surround pan control. And if I do the mono-surround switch on the channels I'll get a handful of pan controls that have a stereo spread, as well as a control to position the sound source in 360 degrees. But a handful will NOT have this option. I'm guessing the Bug is in the channel strip pan function not changing with the kind of channel it is. ie - mono. stereo etc.. ALSO From time to time, I won't get any VU meter for a channel. This one's got me perplexed. Thanks for even looking into it David. dig zack
  23. When I change a channel to a surround channel the pan control stays as a surround channel even if the channel is switched back to mono. Within this bug there is another.... Some of the pan controls give me a stereo spread as well as a 360 degree field... some do not. I don't know enough about surround protocol to know if this is how logic's supposed to treat 7.1 panning. but I'm pretty sure Logic's not supposed to treat the pan control like that.
