  1. Hi David, thanks for trying to help with this. I deleted the Lo7 but to no good. The outcome is still the same. I have managed to do the reverse of what I want (plugin on when button not pushed and plugin off when button pushed) and the way I managed to do that was to 1. keep the button pushed before clicking on Learn assignment, 2. Click Learn assignment and after that release the button. But I can't make it work the way I actually want yet. You said you are able to make it work on your side. Given that I have started suspecting that there may be an issue with the MIDI controller I am using, an Arturia Beatstep. Will switch controllers and see if that makes any difference.
  2. Hi David, thanks for the suggestion. Following your settings results in being able to bypass the effect when pressing the button and enable it the second time I press it (below are the settings I used for this). What I am after though is being able to enable the effect when keeping the button pressed down and bypass it again upon release. I am not able to find a way to accomplish this. I have managed to accomplish the reverse though. I have been able to bypass the effect when the button is pressed down and enable it again upon release.
  3. Hi guys, does anyone have an idea how to solve the puzzle above? thank you!
  4. thanks so much for listening, David. I appreciate the comments!
  5. I bought some new AKAI MPC equipment to make some beats with. I ended up ditching it and went back to using Logic and a controller. It was just faster for me. Here are the results anyway: Let me know what you think! Cheers!
  6. I have an FX plugin on a mixer channel. This plugin is off by default and I want to be able to push a pad and send a midi message to logic to enable (bypass off) that plugin temporarily, while the pad is being pushed. As soon as I release it I want the plugin to go back to OFF (bypass on). I have managed to have the opposite behaviour. I am pressing a pad on my controller and while the pad is pressed the FX turns off and turns on as soon as I release it. I can't seem, for the love of me, figure out how to revert that behaviour. I have tried fiddling with MIDI message details in the MIDI assignments page (like reverting the min and max MIDI value (0 -> 127 to 127->0) but to no good. Any idea how to accomplish this? thanks!
  7. If I understand you correctly, and you mean that the Play button on your Nektar is already mapped to the Play button in Logic's control bar, then you should be able to press that Play button during recording to stop recording without stopping playback. But indeed, Jakob's solution works if you'd rather use the Record button to perform the same action. reading back my post I could have certainly made that more clear, sorry about that. I mapped the play button of my Nektar to the play button of Logic using the Learn New Assignment suggestion. After that, when I was pressing the Nektar's play button while recording the recording button was disabled but the playhead would jump back to the beginning of the loop instead of just continuing playback. It would jump back and continue playback from there.
  8. That did it for me, as the button was already mapped to the play button. Thank you both!
  9. Thanks a lot David, that works nicely when clicking the play button. I was trying the same thing using a Nektar LX+ midi controller that is equipped with playhead buttons and ckicking the play button on the controller was just stopping playback. While recording it seems to act like a stop button. When not recording it acts normally as a play button. This controller seemed great for Logic and it was the very reason I started considering live jamming with it. This controller makes all basic functions available without needing to touch the mouse. It seems, however, not everything is mapped as it should. Any idea if there is a workaround for this?
  10. It seems I can enable recording on a track midway while I playback, but once recording is enabled I can't seem to be able to stop recording without pushing the stop button on the playhead. I am trying to set up logic for some live action but this one seems to be killing it for me. Seems pretty basic though and I would be surprised if that is not possible. Any ideas? Thanks
  11. Hi forum, I am struggling with the following: During mixing is when I am experimenting with volume automations on the different mixer channels. This is the time when I am also experimenting with the channel strip levels. My problem is that I have found no efficient way to do a volume change when I have a volume automation on that channel strip already. It seems to me that Logic wants me to edit the whole automation curve in order to adjust the volume after it has been automated. It makes sense, but this is slow as compared to working on the mixer directly and slide the volume up/down. In order to work around this I am placing a channel EQ plugin on each channel and then change the gain of the channel EQ instead of the channel volume slider. This works ok but it is not the most direct way either. It feels to me like there should be an easier way to that. Is there a way to decouple the volume automation on a channel from the volume setting in the mixer? Or better stated, is there a way to make relative volume changes to the volume mixer levels while automating instead of automating absolute volume levels? thanks!
  12. Hi Mike, no worries! I have received both a lot of good and bad comments in the past. And your constructive criticism is most welcome! Even though for this track the repetition is intentional, I did not know about the "humanize" feature in Logic and it is something I could definitely use on other tracks. I guess this is a "Drummer" feature and not an "Ultrabeat" one, right? By the way, may I know what your background in music is? Are you mainly into percussive instruments?
  13. Thanks for the comment and feedback! I like deep bass too. The first mix attempts had more of the low-end. I ended up reducing that for a more subtle effect and to fit better the rest of the EP.
  14. Hi Mike, And to think that that used to be set about 3 dB higher in the first mixes... . But the kick and bass were also louder back then and the mix was also more compressed so the whole thing sounded quite different. The particular snare sound (stock Ultrabeat snare setting doused in reverb) was supposed to suddenly disturb the first ambient part of the track. Throw off the listener from that first state. I was indeed aiming for some repetitive drum play (distorted and loopy) in order not to take away from the melodies. I was aiming for something more meditative/contemplating. I understand where you come from though. Actually, I have received similar criticism from others as well regarding that snare drum. It was the reason I changed the levels in the first place. I should have maybe shaped the sound differently or ditched the sound completely for a less "prominent" one. It would also be interesting to experiment with the snare hit levels and see if it is possible to vary them just enough in order to make them more interesting without breaking the loopy feeling. Thanks a lot for taking the time to listen and even more for the feedback!
  15. Hi forum, Here are a couple of tracks from my new EP "Convocation". In this album I am trying to create ambient valleys surrounding peaks of intense emotion: Those two tracks were composed exclusively by the use of Logic Pro native instruments (Retro Synth, EXS24, Ultrabear, Drummer) and a guitar. The mixing and mastering was done by using Logic Pro's native plugins only (Reverb Designer, ChromaVerb, standard EQ, Compressor, Limiter). I would be happy to receive any feedback about the production quality of this work. Good or bad! Here are links to the full album in case you are interested: https://grimanise.bandcamp.com/ take care and thanks for listening!
  16. I think the problem is that when the Nektar controller SW is installed it is somehow conflicting with how Virus and Logic exchange data over USB. But I am not sure how to overcome this problem. Anyone has any input on this issue?
  17. Hi forum, I had a Virus TI2 synthesizer connected on a USB port for MIDI communication with Logic Pro (no audio over USB just MIDI). I also had an M-Audio KeyStation Mini 32 connected to logic pro over USB for controlling other instruments. That configuration was working fine. All devices could communicate with Logic. Today I swapped the KeyStation Mini with a Nektar Impact LX49+. I had to install some Nektar SW to map all its controls to Logic. That worked ok. Once I reopened Logic though, I realized that the Virus cannot communicate with Logic anymore. The 'Virus TI Synth' and 'Virus TI MIDI' options on the MIDI tracks are now greyed out. (Virus is configured as an external MIDI instrument to avoid opening the dreadful Virus TI plugin). I unplugged the Nektar, did a few restarts on all devices but without luck. I know there is nothing wrong with the USB communication of Virus because when I set Virus as a SW instrument (using its plugin and sending audio and MIDI over USB) it still works fine. I want to have Nektar and Virus connected over USB to Logic and being able to exchange MIDI data with Logic. Anyone could put me to the right direction? After checking further I realized that when in plugin mode the Virus can receive MIDI notes from Logic but cannot send any. Also, after uninstalling the Nektar SW I am able to use the Virus as before...
  18. sorry, my bad! I was careless. I found it under the place you showed! Thanks again and sorry for any overhead
  19. Strange. Everything is enabled under Advanced Tools but still the "pack-take-folder" and a few others I see on your video are not showing up.
  20. Hi fuzzfilth, thanks for the prompt reply. That is exactly what I have been looking for but the pack take folder option does not seem to appear on my side. Is this a newer feature? I am running on Logic Pro X 10.4.1
  21. Hi forum, I was wondering if there is a faster way of choosing between different audio parts from different audio takes that have been recording on separate channels. I have some vocal parts where the singer is singing the same song each time. I would like to choose different phrases from different takes. I could do that manually by splitting each channel at the position I choose and then cross-fading between the different channels. Is there a way to do that similar to what Logic provides when loop-recording on the same channel? Then I could simply hover over the parts I prefer and Logic would do the above things automatically. thank you all
  22. Worked like a charm! Thanks a lot for the prompt help!
  23. Hi, I made a mistake and while I thought I was recording from "input 2" I was actually recording from "input 1-2". Ended up with stereo recordings of the instrument instead of mono. Now I would like to only keep and process channel 2 from those accidental stereo recordings. Is there an easy way to do that in Logic? cheers!
  24. I would like to know if there is any way to start listening to the metronome without actually enabling playback. Essentially I would like to listen to the metronome, without listening to the tracks and without having to mute all in order to accomplish this.
