  1. awesome - thank you that is indeed "article" i will try it out... i remembered side-chaining - but that is such a multi-purpose tool that i wasn't sure where to go from there. do you know if there are other third party soft synths that might work too? and where i could find them?
  2. thanks for your response... yes...soft synths...rather than the the plug-ins for audio channels (eq, amp modeling, etc.) im not sure why i thought this would be possible w/ o a midi pick-up i just feel like i recall reading something about the ability to process guitars with the soft synths in logic. a la eno, treating guitars with synthesizers - but without a midi language - his synths would have been hard synths of course - but i was just curious as to how someone would treat a guitar today w/a soft synth - an artist like fennesz would be a good example - how can i assign my guitar to so that the resulting output is say the sounds of water - but with the control and inherent audio qualities that plying a real stringed instrument provides
  3. melodyne for treating guitar as synth? or converting audio to midi? monophonic as in single notes (Rather than chords)? I have a copy of the recent melodyne - but have only used it for time stretching up to this point. thanks
  4. hi - was wondering if someone could let me know how and it what ways one could treat a line in instrument (electric guitar) w/ one of the soft synths logic includes (or a third party synth). i fell like i came across an article or post on this a while ago, but now cannot find the answer. waht is the relationship -0 and ability to convert from an audio region to a midi region and vice versa. obviously midi regions can be made into audio regions - but can audio regions be made into midi regions, and treated as such?? thanks
  5. im wondering what the best quality method i can get from duet output - is the mic line any worse than sending to 1/4 inch? is their a preference between, xlr out, line out, or others etc. ? right now i have the 2 male line out cables to 2 female xlr in on my monitors also, when i bring macbookpro home i want to plug it into my stereo aux - but right now have a messy chain: line outs converted to 1/8 inch - which then gets combined onto one cord, which then gets split into two RCA cord ? i know what matters most is what i hear - but i am having a hard time finding the weakest link? could it be the cords themselves, or am i in the wrong place all together - need better stereo? speakers? etc. BTW - w/o going digital optical or coaxial??? don't ahve much money left affter buying this duet thanks guys
  6. what i described above seems a common occurrence, what is new is that when i try to change the input selection from xlr to instrument/line in the option is not even available, even thought the apogee controller window says it is selected
  7. hey guys all of a sudden having a hard time with duet/logic... when i open the apogee control options and set the inputs to line input, logic seems to make the switch, but then in any given channel strip the input selection is still set to xlr. ahve tried restarting, shutting down, etc.. any thoughts.. thanks
  8. hi guys still in the market for a aux computer monitor - and was thinking of buying a used 23" mac cinema display HD - but the old one in the plasticy case, rather than the new aluminum one - is there any important quality difference in the screen itself, etc. thanks
  9. i have a mac book pro with a 17inch screen, but it is not enough space for doing all the work id like to on logic, pro apps, etc. what do u guys recommend ? there is the cinema display form mac, but that seems very exspensive - is it true i can use any monitor, and if so what is a good deal for good quality, etc?
  10. getting ready to invest in a midi controller...have been using a microkorg thus far.. but looking for something with more realisitc key size and weighting (also dont need the microkorg's non MIDI features)... was looking at the m-audio oxygen and axiom's - would like a travel sized thing 49 keys or less, but still lots of controller knobs that i can assign automation to in logic. any recommendations. i'll try any brand. thanks, girl
  11. i am using CAF for recording thru the apogee duet to logic... is this good? when i have clicking during recording and playback is that because my latency buffer is set too low? or because the audio file format i have chosen.... thanks
