  1. Thanks. I've managed that now, except I'm having trouble with the plugins not being validated - there are a lot of them. Is there any quick method to get them to work again?
  2. Hi, I own a second-hand Macbook that contained Logic Pro X downloaded and paid for by the previous owner. This has been great for a few years, but I really want to update it, so I'm fine to proceed now and pay for it myself. The trouble is, in the app store, Logic is tied to the previous owner's Apple ID and I can't change it. From what I've read, I've understood that you need to delete the existing Logic first. The trouble is, I'm afraid to do this and lose all my plugins etc. Can anyone help here? Is there a safe way to make the purchase and re-download Logic, having paid, without losing anything? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  3. No, these were just bounced down within the project from a track of compiled takes. I've only noticed all of these regions recorded with the same microphone being split up this way when I have returned to the project at a later date. I think I would probably notice that happening had it happened at the time I bounced them down.
  4. I've highlighted two that became L and R. When I found these, they had already hard-panned - not manually by me.
  5. I am yes... struggling to find Universal Track Mode in that section or nearby...
  6. Thanks, that seems like a good solution. I'm mainly bewildered as to why this happened in the first place. I checked another project, and the same thing has happened to the source from the same microphone. The mic itself can record from front and back, but I can't work out how I've ended up with two files, one marked L and the other R, when I was recording it mono. It's like these were separated like this after I saved it?
  7. I recorded a bunch of instruments with two mics. For some reson, the Reslo ribbon mic regions in my project now appear to be split into L and R, which is not something I knowingly chose to do. As far as I understood at least, I recorded them mono, so have no idea why I now have a bunch of L and R files which all appear to be for this particular microphone. (I've no memory of it being set up to be recorded stereo, not intentionally anyway.) It's getting confusing as I need to send the project away to the mixing engineer and I don't want to bombard him with all these extra files, which I think are probably going to be identical. What would you advise for cleaning up this project? Just delete all the L or R regions and throw them away? I've no idea how they all ended up like this in the first place. I certainly didn't notice it happening at the time.
  8. So the other day I spent quite a while snapping a drum kit to the grid and it sounds good. Trouble is, my room mic transpired to have been dragged further down the project, so it got left out when I spent ages fixing everything else. I'm wondering if there is a way I can add this stem to the group and sync it up with minimal fuss, or will I need to start everything from scratch? Hugely frustrating if so.
  9. Earlier today I opened up an old project which had a guitar (I think) patch I liked called Industrial Accident. I bounced the raw audio to a new track and managed to lose the track with the patch open. I've been hunting for it again from the menu but can no longer locate it, even in the Legacy section. Where would I find this? I know it still exists in there, somewhere....
  10. I'm having a very frustrating problme with the Group Settings window - I've clicked the triangle to try and customise my settings but everything beneath won't be displayed in the window. If I stretch the window, it doesn't reveal any more of the usual text and check boxes at the bottom. How do I fix this? i tried ctrl + cmd + M to maximise the window, but this still will not reveal the hidden part. What can I do? Extremely frustrating.
  11. Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Here is an mp3 of the bass track (and drums) in its current form with my edits on every bass note. Sometimes they sound just fine, but occasionally a bit 'stiff' rhythmically and also just wonky on other occasions. This was with me lining up the pick sound to lie behind the kick or snare, and the snare hits in this version are a mixture of lined up with snare's waveform or with the peak of it (so that has gotten a little messy). It's a busy new wavey bassline, supposedly in the vein of Elvis Costello & The Attractions. It comes from a recording of the bass amp, which is all I have to work with. https://www.dropbox.com/s/yckzp4pzzss2vt1/The%20Attractions%20-%20album%20version.mp3?dl=0 BTW I got the advice to line up the pick noise from the start of the transient from this below, although they were referring to metal guitar (aren't they always? ho hum) so I took that to mean it would be applicable. https://www.jameszproductions.com/production-help/how-to-edit-guitar-amp-bass-di-in-logic-pro-x
  12. I am learning how to time-correct with flex time and I could do with some tips, if possible. In this instance, I am intending to manually tighten up the notes (no quantisation advice please!) of a bass guitar part, to be perfectly in time with a multi-mic'd drum kit. The engineer has already time-corrected the drum kit close to the grid, but I expect not entirely. I have added transient markers to every bass note and manually shifted every note to match each accompanying kick and snare (top mic) hit, using the Smart snap feature. Overall everything now sounds much better, although some notes still sound slightly out. I think I need to fine-tune my technique and wanted to run it by the forum so you can advise me. I have learned that the best technique is to have a guitar\s pick attack behind the drum hit I am trying to match to. Here is the bass moved against the kick drum: And I'm wondering how I should be lining up notes that are to be in time with the snare. I think this is where I might be going wrong. Which of these is correct? In line with the very beginning of when the snare is struck? Or in line with the snare's peak? Please let me know your thoughts if possible, I feel like I'm finally close to understanding this after years of struggling with time-fixes!
  13. It might be just tired/confused ears. I thought I was hearing a certain kind of rasp to it but perhaps it's just my perception of the sound. Thanks for the advice everyone.
  14. Just a feeling but then again, with this microphone, I always have the gain level in the same position and I've never noticed this kind of hot sound before. Can you hear it on the sample mp3? I was initially using the CLA Vocal plugin on the channel strip when I noticed the mild distortion, so I disabled it and listened to it without, then began attempting takes with no plugin enabled at all and could still hear it, so this appears not to be an issue at plugin level. The sound you hear in that mp3 is completely free of plugins. I have listened through headphones coming from the 2i4 and also through my stereo speakers and I can hear the issue on both, and of course when I am singing. I first noticed while singing and the mildy-clipped sound was not what I was expecting.
  15. I have a Rode NT2 mic which I had refurbished with a new capsule fitted about a month ago and was very happy with the results. I've been recording with it ever since and no complaints, although today after a week of doing no recording, I have returned to my home studio and to my surprise, whenever I attempt to record vocals, everything sounds a bit 'hot' to my ears, although as far as am aware I have changed no settings at all, nor has my microphone moved from its stand in any of that time. I use a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 interface, the 48V button is on as always, and the gain is just shy of 12 o'clock as usual. I am my usual distance from the microphone after many years of recording with a condenser mic (with pop shield). I have uploaded a (very rough) test recording - as can see, it's a very small waveform. There is no processing whatsoever. https://www.dropbox.com/s/etfstoks2j5bg02/Rode%20NT2%20test%20vocals.mp3?dl=0 Can you help me try and eliminate what the issue could be? I really don't understand how it could be the mic itself as like I say, it hasn't moved or been dropped at all since being refurbished just a matter of weeks ago.
