David Nahmani
Can anyone please check this for me? I am unable to assign Smart Controls to the ES2 in Editor view. On the other hand it works as expected in Controls view. Steps to reproduce: 1) Choose File > New and create 1 software instrument track. 2) Insert an ES2 in the instrument slot. 3) Open the Smart Controls. 4) Open the Smart Controls Inspector. 5) Click the 4th Smart Controls knob ("Decay") to select it. 6) Click the assignment in the SC Inspector and choose "Delete Mapping". 7) Click Learn in the Parameter Mapping area. 8) Drag any knob in the ES2. It doesn't assign anything here?

DaveRobinson
You’re welcome! Apple has fixed one bug I hit last time I went through this Lesson This ES2 bug is new, it wasn’t there on my last run through. Also they’ve changed the behaviour a little when creating the summing stack. It doesn’t change the outcome just mis-matches the pictures in the book with the screen. You have to now insert a Compressor then EQ on the channel strip of the main Track of the Track Stack. They were both automatically created the last time I did this. Page 216: 6 In the Tracks area, select the main track of the Track Stack. On the left Channel strip in the inspector, click an empty space in the Audio FX section and choose a Compressor then underneath it a Channel EQ. Turn them both off 7 On the left Chanel strip in the inspector, click the empty space below the Channel EQ in the Audio FX section and choose Modulation > Ring Shifter. ES2 Workaround: Switch to Controls view, scroll down to "LPF Cutoff" and drag that slider left/right. SmartControl ES2 Workaround - Book Released Thread Another option is to use the Parameter Menu for the ES2 settings. It’s not a major bug but I hope it’s fixed in the next update. I’ve really enjoyed going through this again today 8)
David Nahmani
Another option is to use the Parameter Menu for the ES2 settings. I like that too. Thanks!
DaveRobinson
I believe apple should up the price of logic and include your book with the purchase. You would get paid for all your hard work and It would get users on the right track in learning such a complex beast as logic right from the very beginning. Add to this users would have less problems with their machines and everyone comes out a winner. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to write a book on such a complex subject. The fact the software is developing/changing as you type, wow, that’s some challenge. Lesson 5 is one of my favourites, I’ve even uninstalled Automap so I could get a better understanding of Smart Controls. I hope apple continues to improve this feature.
