flaviol
Hello Logic addicts! Is there a way to use one ARP (the one you insert in the MIDI FX slots) to control many Sampler Instruments so that I can have one pattern going to all my instruments at once? Thanks, Flavio
Ploki
Via environment only, as of yet you cannot pop midiFX on top of Auxes.
flaviol
Thanks Ploki. But then I have to use the standard Environment ARP and not the MIDI FX one that has a pattern editor, right?
fisherking
just curious; could you do this with a track stack of all the instruments you wanted to control? am not at my mac to try that, but i've done stacks where i wanted to add effects globally... EDIT: oops! logically, there's no midi fx on a track stack...
fisherking
ok, i made a track stack, put the same arp on each individual instrument in the stack (since they sync to tempo, they should do the same thing). when i record on the track stack master track (did i phrase that right?)... it works. try it. fisherking
one more comment: it's very cool! i also tried different arp settings, tuning one synth up a 5th, etc. it's HUGE, and animated.
flaviol
Thanks fisherking. Yes you can do it that way but I was trying to control all the synths with one Arp. Specially useful when messing around with patterns on the arp.

Eric Cardenas
Here's how you do it: One MIDI FX over multiple instruments?
flaviol
Thanks Eric. The IAC trick is close but then I'd be sending the same MIDI notes to all instruments. I don't want to do that. I want each instrument to have it's own option for notes. I just want the on/off pulse (with pattern "live" or "grid" on the ARP) to be the same. Some instruments might have 3 notes, some 4, or maybe it's 2 percussion instruments that different MIDI notes to trigger the right sounds. fisherking
i dunno, my idea is simple, and simple enough to change arp settings in multiple instances; you could find an arp setting you like, and save it, then just open it on the other synth tracks. anyway, this is keeping me occupied (and out of trouble).... You have to use separate instances If you have different notes as input to the arps as one. What I would do is to insert an arp on each track. Make a Track stack of these tracks and configure Smart Controls to control the arp.
fisherking
eric, as usual, brilliant.
flaviol
Thanks Eric, it's a nice solution. But the point of one arp, as opposed to various arps, is so I can play with the pattern grid (drawing notes in) on only one arp and it affects all the instruments. Otherwise it's a pain. I'll poke around more for a solution, if there is one. Thanks everybody!

But if you want one arp pattern grid to go to multiple instruments, then the only way is via IAC as Eric suggested. After that then you can put a secondary midi fx on each instrument track to further change what happens on each instrument.
Ploki
neat solution @Eric. as for OP, i'm also confuse what is he trying to achieve exactly.
