Sequences that "breathe"-the Pitchbend:Tempo Fader

.....is generally a lot more intuitive to use than the graphic tempo functions, and more fun, enabling you to "conduct" your sequence by feel which is indispensable for most authentic orchestral passages.

So it could be a disappointment to find out that the range is restricted to 50-177 (bpm). Using the Monitor object in the Environment, it's easy to see that the Tempo Fader-or any fader, for that matter-can only output values between 0-127. And the Meta Event "Tempo Control" has its range of 50-177 which can't be user-changed AFAIK.

However, a workaround if you need faster or slower tempi than 50-177 bpm would be to use the half/double tempo functions for Regions (in the Edit Windows), or Reclock Song for the whole Song.

But if you want to have a different "center" value for the PitchWheel it's quite easy, using the Transformer Object.

Let's say you want a default tempo of 124bpm instead of the default 114.

Just put a new Transformer Object in the Environment, cabled between the Physical Input and the Tempo Fader. You have to double-click it to make the settings. Set Conditions/Status to =Pitch Bend: set the Operations to "Thru" but the last one to "Add" with a value of (in this case) 10. Your tempo range will now be +10 overall using the wheel, meaning centered at 124, a minimum of 60, and of course the maximum Tempo of 177 will be reached before the wheel is at the top of its travel.

If you use "Exponential" instead of "Add" or "Subtract" as the final Operation, you can change the sensitivity of tempo change to the wheel movement, but I found this a bit unpredictable.

The Logic manual explains the Tempo Fader+Pitch Bend very simply on p.603

If anyone can think of a workaround to alter the range of the Meta Event 100 (Tempo Control), I'd like to hear it!

Greetings
