floprocker
Greetings! I have a UA Twinfinity and an Apogee Duet. I'm trying to figure out where to set the inputs on both devices to get a good, clean sound. Currently I have the Duet 2 at 50%, and the Twinfinity with the -15db pad on with the input and output at 50%. This gets me a good signal, but there is a lot of hiss. Would it be best to lower the input on the Apogee? Bypass the Apogee preamps all together? What is the ideal setup here? I'm using a Miktek C7 and Shure SM7b, and shouldn't have the hiss I'm getting. Thanks!
rone2him
I would think, that you would set the Duet at 0% (which would emulate a configuration), then using the UA as the sole preamp.
Rev. Juda Sleaze
Doesn't the Duet have line inputs? I'm not suprised you're getting hiss if you're running trough two preamps.
floprocker
The Duet has XLR and 1/4 inputs. The Twinfinity has XLR outputs. If I go XLR into the Duet, it's automatically on the mic input...unless I'm not doing this correctly. If the Duet is at 0% I get no sound. rone2him
Doesn't the Duet have line inputs? •Whether you are using the breakout cable or breakout box Duet 2 is capable of 2 channels of analog input (mic, line, or instrument)• the gain increases and decreases throughout the incredible range of 0-75dB Maybe with a XLR/TRS cable into the instrument... the problem is as the "Rev' states, you don't want to go thru two pre's... I have the UA Twin, but I take it into an available input on my interface. Could be the Duet is just not designed to handle an external pre, or there is a way to bypass the Duet pre amps
damon
Bypass the Duet 2 preamps completely. You do it via the included Maestro software. Check it out: http://www.apogeedigital.com/knowledgebase/duet-2-usb/can-i-bypass-the-preamps-in-duet-2/
