Hi everyone, today I received my focusrite scarlett 2i2 3rd gen to replace my old 2i4 1st gen.
I am running a subwoofer, a Swissonic 10 inch sub which my outputs from my interface go into the sub, then there is an output from the sub to the monitors.
I was always told to use the 2i4 with the monitors set at +4db, but they was too quiet unless the monitors were set to the -10db position. So I used the -10db position even if it wasn't "correct" but it seemed fine.
I received my new Scarlett 2i2 today as the old interface had a scratchy monitor pot that cut sound out left and right, and as soon as I connected my monitors it was a LOT louder. I am talking 1/4 of the way turned up was getting very loud.
I switched the setting on the monitors to +4db and it seemed more like how it was before, about 2/3rds of the way up and the monitors are starting to get a bit uncomfortably loud.
The only issue is my sub, and where I wanted to ask for a bit of help. The sub is showing a lot more excursion than it was before, even at half the monitor output turned up, and I was worried I was going to blow it. (It is active so I don't know if this is possible, but it was moving a lot).
I turned the subwoofer down to its minimum, then increased it slowly until it seemed about right compared to my old setup.
So I wondered if using +4db could have caused my sub to move more, or as my monitors are after in the signal chain it is just where the interfaces are different the 3rd gen 2i2 just can provide more gain compared to the first gen 2i4?
I am happy it is working properly on the +4db setting as this is what I have always been told to use, it just seems the new gen has enough to supply pro levels to my monitors.
Thanks for your help, Conan.
