  1. Hi everyone, today I received my focusrite scarlett 2i2 3rd gen to replace my old 2i4 1st gen. I am running a subwoofer, a Swissonic 10 inch sub which my outputs from my interface go into the sub, then there is an output from the sub to the monitors. I was always told to use the 2i4 with the monitors set at +4db, but they was too quiet unless the monitors were set to the -10db position. So I used the -10db position even if it wasn't "correct" but it seemed fine. I received my new Scarlett 2i2 today as the old interface had a scratchy monitor pot that cut sound out left and right, and as soon as I connected my monitors it was a LOT louder. I am talking 1/4 of the way turned up was getting very loud. I switched the setting on the monitors to +4db and it seemed more like how it was before, about 2/3rds of the way up and the monitors are starting to get a bit uncomfortably loud. The only issue is my sub, and where I wanted to ask for a bit of help. The sub is showing a lot more excursion than it was before, even at half the monitor output turned up, and I was worried I was going to blow it. (It is active so I don't know if this is possible, but it was moving a lot). I turned the subwoofer down to its minimum, then increased it slowly until it seemed about right compared to my old setup. So I wondered if using +4db could have caused my sub to move more, or as my monitors are after in the signal chain it is just where the interfaces are different the 3rd gen 2i2 just can provide more gain compared to the first gen 2i4? I am happy it is working properly on the +4db setting as this is what I have always been told to use, it just seems the new gen has enough to supply pro levels to my monitors. Thanks for your help, Conan.
  2. I ended up choosing the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 as it fits my needs and I am familiar with Focusrite products from owning the first gen 2i4. Everywhere else had it for £130 but I managed to get it from Thomann for just £99! The only snag is I ordered it on the 1st and it won't be here until the 9th or 10th of May, as it has to be shipped over from Germany I imagine. Thank you for your helpful advice.
  3. OK I figured it out. For some reason the kick, clap and hi hat channels were not showing on the meter when they went off, just ultrabeat was showing on the meter. I went into ultrabeat, set the drums back to sub group 1, deleted the kick, clap and hi hat channel then switched the kick to sub group 1, the clap to sub group 2, and the hi hat to sub group 3. I then pressed the + button on ultrabeat to bring up 3 channels which is the kick, clap and hi hat, set the compressor to the kick channel and it is now working as it should.
  4. Nope, the problem is still there it has came back. I don't know what is going on. Here is the logic file now set up with the settings you recommended. Pied piper remix LPH 2.zip
  5. I want the ultrabeat kick to trigger the compressors sidechain, as I want to use some sidechain compression to make it stand out more. OK, this is really weird, before when I selected bus 2 the compressor was not recognising the trigger and not working, I just tried selecting bus 2 and it is working as it should. Thank you for your help and fixing my problem, you are a legend :)
  6. There is no drummer region I mean ultrabeat. If I copy the drum pattern from bar 17 to bar 5 like you do the compressor is still not triggered. I just want the compressor to work throughout the track, is it possible for you to copy the drums so they trigger the compressor for me and share it on here as I am having trouble doing it?
  7. That is odd as I have just copy and pasted the drum pattern I created, so I don't see why it isn't trigerring before bar 17. How do I make it trigger before bar 17 throughout the whole track?
  8. Thank you it is working now. Why does it only work when you start playback from bar 17 though thats a little odd?
  9. I have tried setting it to kick 2 and it is still not working, could you see if it works when you change it to kick 2?
  10. Here is the file, hopefully you can see what is wrong Pied piper remix LPH.zip
  11. I have tried to exaggerate the settings and it is still not recognising the kick going off, I got round it by sending the kick to a bus and sidechaining the compressor to that bus but yes I can share the file. How do I share a file with someone on here?
  12. Here is a screenshot of how I have sidechained the bass's compressor
  13. Hi everyone, I have a project I am working on and have sidechained the bass to the kick drum, but the compressor is not recognising the kick as it goes off. I have used ultrabeat and put each drum on its own channel so I can mix the levels separately, and it seems I have selected the right kick to sidechain. I have included some photos so if anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong it would be much appreciated
  14. Hi everyone, my focusrite scarlett 2i4 has failed with a scratchy volume pot that cuts the sound out left and right randomly, so I need to replace my interface. My budget is around £130 so I am not sure wether just to go with the scarlett 2i2 3rd gen as that is exactly on budget, I just wanted to know some options for what I can get for my money and what is best. It is my birthday tomorrow and my Mum is buying me the interface as a present, although we don't get payed until Saturday so thats when I will order it. Thank you for your help, Conan.
  15. No problem, the notes were slightly off centre on the grid as I imagine it was ripped from a vinyl so the speed was slightly off but it was enough to teach me how to play the melody :)
