Goergtn
Well, I got the signature thing figured out anyway.
Goergtn
I tried trashing Logic X and put in my old 10.1.1 from my backups into the applications folder. AppStore saw an update was needed, I downloaded it. Tried to open Logic and got the same result - ".....unexpectedly quit....". Any suggestions? Maybe download the whole Logic program again & how would I do that ?
Goergtn
Tried trashing logic10.2 and then reinstalling logic from the App Store/purchases. Same result. Tried trashing com.apple.logic10.plist - same result. Found a newer driver for my RME ff800 - restarted- same result. Had Discutility fix permissions. Same result. It seems to crash when the opening screen says "updating information about plugins" - then it "unexpectedly " quits. Anybody with a suggestion? oscwilde
Have you tried deleting the AU cache? Remove the "com.apple.audiounits.cache" file. Remove the ~/Library/Caches/AudioUnitCache folder.
Goergtn
I'll try your suggestion t'row. I went back to 10.1 to get some work done. I'll post results one way or the other. Thanks for your suggestion.
Eric Cardenas
Try removing the old Alchemy plug-in from the component folder.
Goergtn
Tried trashing the cache as suggested - no joy. I looked for an Alchemy component in both library/audio/plugins folders & could not find any. I never owned Alchemy, except for an IPad version. Did the update to 10.2 again - no joy. Goergtn
Sorry to bump this, but I'm hoping somebody can help me out. In short, the 10.2 update crashes upon opening. Crash report lists a few Alchemy things. The only alchemy files I have are in an ITunes backup of my IPad which has the little mobile version. Any suggestions ? des99
Alchemy is part of Logic 10.2.0, and it's this that's crashing (ie, Logic is crashing). See here and try these things: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=119218
Goergtn
Went to user/library/appsupport/logic - there is nothing "Alchemy" there. In the system there are Alchemy samples & I put them on my desktop. Tried to open 10.2 again and it immediately went to a crash log, didn't even try to scan au's or gather any info. Thanks, anyway. des99
Ok, if that file wasn't created then Alchemy is obviously crashing before initialising and creating that file. What about if you turn off the audio driver?
Goergtn
No go. What's weird now is that when I try to open 10.2, it's not doing the Unexpectedly Quit message, but just saying there's a problem. In the crash log, it says: Dyld Error Message : library not loaded : @rpath/MAAlchemy I tried opening Logic with different modifier keys (control - shift/control) and they immediately produce the same crash log (as far as a I can tell). LumberJake
Similar problem, also tried getting rid of the cache folder with no success.
Eric Cardenas
Have you tried removing this file: ~/Music/Audio Music Apps/Alchemy_Preset_Ratings_And_Tags.db
n6smith
FWIW, a small humber of users have reported that it was because of an alias they created prior to installing 10.2, to relocate some of Logic's content to an external drive, that is responsible for such crashes where Alchemy seems to be the culprit. Replacing the alias with a Symlink has apparently resolved the issue... I cannot confirm this myself as i don't have this issue.... Here is one example thread from ACLP https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7192201
Eric Cardenas
Thanks for the information. That may very well be it.
des99
Symlinks work fine for me with the Alchemy content. It would be helpful when people post things like crash reports to mention whether they did any non-standard install procedures as the first thing to try is a standard install to see whether it fixes the issue. In any case, give it a try and let us know whether it fixes it for you, or if you haven't tried to relocate the Alchemy content and you still get this crash. Goergtn
I have nothing "Alchemy" in audio music apps folder. I have no aliases for logic content - exs samples and loops are where they should be. Only stuff on other drives are spectrasonics/scarbee/uvi/vir2 samples. Another drive holds projects (there is an alias for this drive). Still can't update.
Eric Cardenas
Try creating a new administrator account in OS X and launch Logic from that account instead.
Goergtn
You da man, Eric! 10.2 is running on a new adm. acct. Now what? Should it be OK on my usual acct. or do I have to do something else to ensure that? Is there still troubleshooting to be done? Do I make this new account my regular one and go from their? Thanks Dan
Goergtn
Well, it still crashes on my regular account. That answers that question. What next?
Goergtn
I feel like I'm on the edge of getting this solved. 10.2 will work on a different user account, but not my usual one. How do I go about troubleshooting from here?
Eric Cardenas
Hi Georg! This means that there is something not right in your user folder. Try this: Quit Logic Pro X. Move the ~/Music/Audio Music Apps folders to the trash, do not empty it yet. Launch Logic Pro X again.
des99
Most likely a permissions problem...
Goergtn
Moved that folder to trash - 10.2 still crashes while "gathering info about plug-ins". Already repaired permissions a couple times during this whole episode. Do you want to see crash log?
Eric Cardenas
No, there is no need for more crash logs. It can be, as des says, some of the permissions that are not correctly configured in you user folder. It can also be other stuff on your account that don't play right with Logic. Since it appears to crash while checking plugins it could be something in your user plug-in folder. Navigate to [YOURUSER]/Audio/Plug-ins/Components. Do you have anything there? Goergtn
That folder has: EZDrummer....EZPlayer....Kontakt5(player)....StylusRMX....SuperiorDrummer....Trilian....23 assorted Michael Norris effects.....MSED Curiously, no Omnisphere, but that is in the systems' plug-in components folder. I tried once launching 10.2 with all the MN components in the disabled folder - still crashed. I don't know what MSED component is, but I put it in the disabled folder - still crashed. Eric Cardenas
Create a temporary Disabled-plug folder on the desktop and move all these plugins to this folder instead. Make sure that it is empty then launch Logic.
Goergtn
Put all plug-in components from user/audio/plug-ins/components folder into a folder on the desktop. Shut down the computer. Restarted a few minutes later. Tried opening 10.2 - same crash. Thanks for sticking with me, Eric. Very frustrating for me.
