Select equal colored notes works only w velocity?

I was excited about this function, especially when you have selected multiple midi regions and have set the view to region color so you can clearly see the notes of each region. But it doesn't seem to work unless view by velocity is selected. I hope I'm doing something wrong cause if that's the case, it would be such a waste of a useful feature.
