Not Hearing Audio On Duplicates "User Saved Channel Strip" Audio Tracks

A problem I've only had when recording audio on tracks that have been created by "create a new track of this type"  on a track which is a user defined channel strip type track.

 

I record but can't hear audio.  i have to manually create another audio track and rebuild the channel strip, and then drag the audio to THAT track and only then I hear what I recorded.

 

Almost as if logic is confused by a "group" of tracks of the same type being grouped together
