kerochan
After I have been working on Logic I just close the lid of my macbook, rather than shutting it down, is this ok? and, is this classed as going in to sleep mode? Any help appreciated
fisherking
yes, that puts your mac to sleep.. which is fine. i always quit logic before i sleep; this used to be an issue, but probably not anymore (where logic did not do well after being woken from sleep)... am just used to doing that. kerochan
Thanks Fisherking, I always quit Logic first too. However, what if the Mac is set to Never sleep? what will happen then whenI close the lid?
Eric Cardenas
Closing the lid without an external display connected will make the MacBook go to sleep. Use the Energy Saver settings on your Mac - Apple Support
kerochan
Eric Thank you My main computer (macbook Pro) (closed) is connected to an external display, I always press arrow, central eject to turn off the display, and touch any key to start, is this putting the computer to sleep too? Eric Cardenas
Do you use an external keyboard or are you using dual displays? It all depends on how you do things. Here's a great article on the subject of "clamshell mode": Use your Mac notebook computer in closed-display mode with an external display - Apple Support

Thanks for the link, though it doesn't answer my question really.
Eric Cardenas
My procedure to make sure that it doesn't go into clamshell mode would simply be to put the computer to sleep deliberately instead of only the external display: Press Control-Eject. Press S. Hope that helps.

Thats an idea Eric thank you, though its seems its advised to set your system to sleep NEVER, when using Logic/P Tools etc. At the end of the day it might be easier just to leave the macbook pro open! ? I can then just shut down the computer at the end of sessions!
Eric Cardenas
This will totally depend on your setup. Some systems work perfectly fine and have no issues with sleep mode. Some do not. I always set my MacBook to sleep or to hibernate but I do not do this with my studio computer which is on 24/7.
kerochan
yeah, I agree, its fine for my little macbook air which I use for emails etc, I will keep my studio set up with my Macbook pro open and just shut down after sessions, safer. Until I buy a Mac Pro.
