Record automation with midi

Unless I'm misunderstanding you. All you have to do is select track in question. Put it into record, and record you slider/fader movements it will record midi CC events. It will look like it's recording on top of your midi notes. When recording is finished, the midi fader data is on a new track to same instrument. You can leave it there of merge two tracks together.
