Project loading freezes on Channel eq

2020 Mac Pro 16 core

Catalina

Logic 10.4.8

 

When I load projects, it freezes on channel eq. Only way to get into the session is to disable core audio, open it, then re-enable. Plays fine after that.

 

Troubleshooting done so far

Disable all plugins

Reinstall logic

Try system audio

Fixed, had to delete the PLAY component.

PLAY is the EastWest sampler engine.

In fact, this is happening to me on sessions in which I am using PLAY.

And this might seem like a very basic question, but how do I delete the PLAY component? And is there a risk that my sessions might corrupt if I do?

Download the PLAY 6.1.9 Mac installer there and unzip it, you will find an uninstaller.

But if I uninstall it I wouldn't be able to use EastWest, I suppose. Or do you mean uninstalling to then re-install it?

Yes, that's correct. I'm not sure why PLAY is doing this. Maybe @Ashermusic knows more about this issue?

Play has been replaced by the much better Opus engine. Not sure off the top of my head what the issue with this specific installation, but I only still keep Play for backwards compatibility.

So just delete Play from the Components folder and install Opus and you can still use EW libraries.

So then don't use the uninstaller, just manually delete the .component file from the Finder?

Either will work but on a Mac, the Uninstaller isn’t necessary unless you want to remove every trace of it in various sub folders, which won’t amount to any significant disk space or performance improvements.
