taffy
Hello, How to use Roland Fantom 7 to be used as a MIDI keyboard so I can record plugins in Logic? Edited June 2, 2020 by taffy
rAC
How are you connecting your Roland’s MIDI? Does it show up as a device in AudioMIDI studio [in Applications>Utilities>]?
taffy
Via USB. Yes it shows BTW, I had a Roland Gaia connected prior, as well as another MIDI Keyboard and they worked Ok.
rAC
Logic preferences audio and midi pages - is the Fantom showing there too?
taffy
Yes.
rAC
Ok have you tried disabling the Fantom and Fantom DAW CTL entries leaving only the MIDI in one active? Or with just the DAW CTL one disabled? The only other thing I can think of is using Snoizes MIDIMonitor or something similar to see where Logic’s MIDI out is going.
taffy
Only MIDI Control event appears to be from DAW CTRL buttons on Fantom. Checked off per suggestion...still prob. Are these Ok?
rAC
Clutching at straws now, try: 1. Bypass all control surfaces; 2. Blowing away your preferences for logic. Back them up first if you’ve got a lot of individualised settings. 3. Logging in as a new user to see whether it will work there. Re your settings I would be inclined to tick all the ‘Reset Messages’ options but I don’t think that has anything to do with the problem you are having. taffy
I tried on another Mac..same issue. Thanks
Solution taffy Posted June 2, 2020 Author Solution Share Posted June 2, 2020 Roland solution worked: To use the Fantom as a MIDI controller, to trigger instrument sound in MainStage or Logic, make sure the "Zone" that is selected is set to transmit MIDI. Hold SHIFT and press the Zone button, (under the Zone knobs) to select Internal Sound for onboard sounds, External sound only, or Both, to layer. The corresponding LED colors are: Red = Internal Green = External Unlit = Both "External" or "Both" will get MIDI into logic.
