Culljosh
Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations towards a USB C dock (MacBook 2017) for my Audient iD14 interface/Midi Drums/Synth? Currently, I am using one I purchased from Amazon that's unreliable and causing some interference in Logic. (Cracks and Pops that sometimes are there and sometimes not) I'm needing at least a few ports or should I just get an individual cable for my interface and use a hub for my drum/synth connections? Cheers, All! P.S. Does anyone also know of any good headphone extensions for my external headphone pre-amp?
fisherking
get a powered hub (unless you're moving around a lot); also, try resetting the smc on your mac (google for your particular model). an AC-powered hub won't draw power from your mac; if you can't find a usb C one, get a usb 3 one, and some adapters (sounds like fun, right? an ac cable, and adapters). but you want this to work... facej
I wish the TB3 dock mentioned had been available 10 months ago I use an OWC TB3 dock which is great, but the power connection is quite, uh, weak. It is far to easy to have the power be interrupted while plugging cables. The "secure power" connection looks like a winner to me. TB3 dock is the way to go! Culljosh
I got the OWC USB - C HUB that’s $119.99. It’s cool but I need HDMI!
facej
did you try the OWC adapter? https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/ADPMDPHDMI/
Culljosh
Oh, man guys! I didn't know you had to use the short USB-C they sent for the video to work properly. I'm such a dummy because I was using a longer cable that I had. Everything is fine now.

SergeMeister
I’m using an OWC hub also (working great so far with Apollo 8p, iLok dongle, spinning USB drives, RAID II SSD drives) that includes two “old school” USB ports that claim to provide power to connected devices so that the device wall-warts are no longer required. I’m not using those ports yet, does anyone know if it is safe to connect “non-wall-wart dependent” devices (drives, iLok, etc.) to these ports? Culljosh
https://imgur.com/a/hnYcP80 I mounted mine under my desk and hooked up my - Midi Drums - Midi Controller - Interface - Monitor - & External Drive. ONE CABLE TO RULE THEM ALL!
facej
I connect non-wall-wart devices to hubs (powered) which are connected to my TB3 dock just fine...

SergeMeister
Mine is a Thunderbolt 2 now-discontinued model (OWC Thunderbolt 2 Dock P/N: TB2DOCK12P) with DC voltage applied to two of the USB ports. I was concerned that the power supply current provided (1.5A) might be too much for other devices: "(2) USB 3.1 Gen 1 high-power ports — These ports are each capable of providing up to 1.5A of power"
