venk.ivanov
Hey guys, I recently saw some posts from people reporting .mamd files appearing near they Logic Pro project files (when saved as packed, but not folder) and since I've never seen anything like that I'd like to ask if somebody has seen that and probably knows what they are. I couldn't find any information on the internet about that and a regular Google search points to the Media and file formats in Logic Pro at Apple Support page. I think it's a kind of metadata container, but not sure... Any clues? David Nahmani
.mamd extension? Never heard of it. How big is the file? Where did you see those posts? Can you link to one? Quote My new Logic Pro Book is out!
venk.ivanov
Yes, for example here: They are quite small, about 60 to 83 KB. I've got one. When tried to open it with TextEdit or Text Wrangler, all I got was wild symbols. EDIT: I think they appeared after I used Smart Tempo... Not 100% sure tho. David Nahmani
So apparently it's tied to using mp3 files? Quote My new Logic Pro Book is out!
venk.ivanov
In my case I used .mp3 files, yeah! Imported them to a new project via Audio Import command. David Nahmani
Ok I tried a couple of configurations of creating a project with an mp3 file and using Smart Tempo but couldn't get a .mamd file to appear. In some situations Logic creates additional files (temporary files, standby recording, overview files etc.) to do its own internal work or as helpers for the user, and in other situations those files are made invisible and transparent to the user. It's possible that in a specific situation you're in Logic needs to store some data in a visible manner. In order to be any more precise we would have to pinpoint in which exact situation (after what exact operational steps have been taken) the file is created. Quote My new Logic Pro Book is out! venk.ivanov
I was able to trace this behaviour. So it happens every time for me if I do the following: Open a new empty project > Import MP3 File with Shift+Cmd+I > Analyse Smart Tempo of the file > Apply Region Tempo to Project Temp > Save Logic project as a package. I get 100% creation of .mamd files. des99
Confirmed, in 10.5.1 - I see the same behaviour. Maybe the smart tempo data can't be written to an mp3 file, so an alternative file is used to store this data in this case? Same as .ovw (overview) files in some specific cases, to store the waveform overview data. Quote My new Logic Pro Book is out!
