simoncroft
I don't have a lot of use for the Play button on MIDI controllers, because the spacebar always seems handier. Here's a Controller Assignment mod you can make in seconds. In the Controller Assignment window (Alt-Shift-K), find the Play assignment and change it using Key Command/Windows Showing Audio Files/Show File(s) in Finder from the pull-down menus. When you've written the CA, go to the Arrange window and click on any audio file on the timeline. Then press Play. Now, instead of putting the arrangement into play, it opens a separate window, showing where the file actually is! If that folder happens to contain other audio files that are going to be used in the Project, it's quite a little time-saver.
David Nahmani
That's a great use of an unused button on your controller! Great idea, and thank you for sharing.
simoncroft
Thank you, David. Many MIDI controllers seem to have Play and Stop buttons, but it makes more sense to me to change the Key Command for one of them to 'Play or Stop', so that it toggles. This frees up a button and is easier to use, IMO.
