des99
That information isn't released by these companies, generally, for commercial reasons, so any figures you hear are largely conjecture or guesses. olavsu1
You don't get true information, you only get indirect information. ProTools (to know the quantity, count all the major (sound - radio/tv) studios and the most famous living composers and major music schools). Cubase/Nuendo (to know the amount, count all the smaller producers who claim to do everything themselves (recording, mixing, mastering and production)). Fruity Loops (count all electronics music artists in soundcloud). Reaper (guitarists only talk about it). Sonar (look how many is registered and active accounts in bandlab community). All others. (how many of these unknown one-man bands and just as interested humans are there. some professionals may also be included) Make a poll. If there is one person using a DAW, then there are yet 5k persons doing the same.
MikeRobinson
I don't expect any commercial software vendor to "release sales figures." However, we can certainly observe when a product has been successful: when the product is successfully used to make music. I would also quickly observe, then, that some "successful [music] software products" are not "sold" at all. We cannot dismiss the successes of the open-source software community. Some commercially-oriented efforts successfully use these tools, too. (And, by the way, some of the tools are "damned good." )Today, if you're not "making it" in your music aspirations, do not blame either the hardware or the software. 😀 Every product is in competition to become "a sworn-by tool in some artist's hands," but the sheer diversity of what is going on means that none of them will ever "win," nor expect to, nor need to.
