external instrument arpeggiator question

I have an external instrument (D50 in this case) connected via a dedicated MIDI interface and the audio output of the D50 goes into a Scarlet 2i2.  So I can setup an external track and an audio track to recored the analog output of the D50.  I can hear the D50 sounds just fine if I play the instrument with the audio track selected.  All of that works fine.

I can add an arpeggiator to the external track and it works fine except that I cannot hear the output of the D50.  If I select the audio track I can hear it fine but then, obviously, I cannot interact with the D50 and the arpeggiator since they are not the selected track.  What am I doing wrong here?

It could be that you need to uncheck the setting "Input Monitoring only for the focused track,..." in Logics audio settings under "General"...
