Yes, that will force your keyboard that's transmitting on some other channel to be rechannelised to MIDI channel 1 and thus control your plugins more as intended, but you'll always have to remember to do this on all your tracks, whereas if you just change it on your controller keyboard once, you won't have to do anything, or remember to do this on each new track you create.
