Gianni_Gon
Hi there, Im torn between two choices. Next to me is a store that sells speakers and I found these Vintage Avid Model 102 Stereo Speakers that sound just sooo good. But I remember producers telling me that I shouldn't use HiFi speakers to produce because they prioritze audio fidelity for home listening and may lack directional control... What is your take on that?
David Nahmani
I agree that you're better off finding some real monitoring speakers that are aiming to be flat and transparent (even though none really are) rather than hi-fi speakers that sound good. The goal is not to make your mix sound good on your speakers (and probably not so good on others), the goal is to truly hear what's going on in your mix, so that it translates well to other speakers.
synth_hero
Here is an excellent article weighing your options: https://www.neumann.com/en-en/homestudio-academy/difference-between-home-stereo-speakers-and-studio-monitors/
