synth_hero
Late 1970s Japanese advert for the “Apple Music Synthesizer”. The first hardware music accessory for the 1977 Apple II was ALF's "Apple Music Synthesizer", later renamed "Music Card MC16". It allowed users to create and play music using graphical music entry. This inspired many other developers to create more advanced sound cards and software for the Apple II and other computers as musical instruments and tools for artistic expression, like ‘Phasor’, a stereo music, sound and speech synthesizer created by Applied Engineering for the Apple II family of computers. Reference: Pinterest, Apple II sound cards Wiki. Can anybody help spot the "Apple Music Synthesizer" in this picture. TIA
synth_hero
The "MC16" is a sound card (image attached) that could be inserted into an expansion slot in the Apple II series of computers. "Since the Apple II had no mouse, the GUI was implemented using the Apple's "game paddles"; one moved an arrow to select the desired icon, and the other moved the selected icon to the desired position on the musical staff on the screen display. When entering a musical note, the sound of the note was simultaneously played by the synthesizer for confirmation that the correct pitch had been selected."
