Sanctuary
Really strange behavior. On page 108, step 2, when I click the snare it makes no sound. However, if I use your other method of opening Drum Kit Designer (control-clicking a control in Smart Controls) as you advise in one of your forum answers, then I can hear the snare sound. And what's really weird is that after I use that alternative method, when I go back to the method instructed on page 108, it suddenly works (sound is audible)! Actually, scratch that — now suddenly, I cannot hear the drum sounds with either method! Is this a Logic bug, or is there some setting that needs to be adjusted? David Nahmani
Unfortunately I have only an eBook version of my book and the page numbers do not match the printed version, so I'm not sure which exercise you're referring to. Could you give me the name of the exercise?

David Nahmani
Ok great, got it. So when you click the snare, do you see the snare remain bright while the rest of the kit is dimmed, as on the image in step 2 in the book? If you click it again a few times, does it end up sounding or not at all?
Sanctuary
Well, it's hit or miss, very sporadic. Right now it seems to be working fine (snare is bright and makes a sound, while the rest of the kit is dimmed). However, when I first proceeded through the lesson, clicking the snare made no sound. However, when I used your other method of opening Drum Kit Designer (control-clicking a control in Smart Controls), then I was able to hear the snare sound. Then after using that alternative method, when I went back to the method instructed on page 108, it suddenly worked. But then ten minutes later it didn't work again. That's why I was wondering if it's a bug or some setting in Logic.
David Nahmani
There's no setting in Logic that would affect this behavior, and no matter how you open the Drum Kit Designer plug-in, clicking an individual drum kit piece should always trigger its sound. 5 hours ago, Sanctuary said: when I first proceeded through the lesson, clicking the snare made no sound. I just opened a new empty project went through all the exercises in the lesson leading to that "Customizing the Kit with Drum Kit Designer." exercise, and in step 2 when I click the snare, the other drum kit pieces are dimmed and the snare sound is triggered, as expected. So I'm not sure why your snare is not triggering consistently. When it's not triggering, do you still see the other kit pieces become dimmed as expected, you just don't hear the snare sound? And at that point if you click it again a few times, you still can't hear it? If you click another drum kit piece, you can't here it either? Sanctuary
Well, without retracing all my steps in the exercise, if I just add a new Drummer track now and open Drum Kit Designer, it's all working as expected. So I don't know what the issue was. To answer your question, though, when I was having the issue, it was with each piece in the kit (snare, toms, etc), and clicking a few times wasn't helping. I don't remember if the pieces were going dim or not.
David Nahmani
Not sure what it could have been, hopefully just a glitch! Good to hear it's working now. 🙂
