mediacity
I would like to 'hide' 6 bars of my Logic project, not delete them. That is, hide those bars for all tracks in the project. I want to have the option of reviving that section in the future. So when I hit play, I want the project to not-play those bars, and go from bar 15 to bar 21, so to speak. Is this possible? wonshu
We treat the back of the project as sketching and library area. So we would select everything in those six measures (edit, what has to be edited first), copy them to the back, then cut the time at the original position. Sometimes I would have a "No Output" track with a region reminding me of where that material was.
oscwilde
Or you can leave them where they are, but "skip" them during playback, using the Skip Cycle function. https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/logicpro/lgcp59e41e86/mac
oscwilde
Another option is Project Alternatives: https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/logicpro/lgcpa158ef77/mac And use of arrangement markers to make selection/edits quicker: https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/logicpro/lgcpf7c0c09c/mac
mediacity
Hi all, thanks for your replies. The skip cycle works well if there is only one area to skip. If there is more than one area, it is more complex. After some research, I tried using Meta Events. I took information from a very old post of David's from 2005. Is the information in this post still workable...? Are faders still necessary to get it working? I found it easier to simply set up Meta Events in the List Editors window, but could not get them to work properly. It would skip at the wrong place, perhaps a bar later than expected, almost as if the processor could not process the command quickly enough. So I tried a different method that involves setting up an IAC channel, and programming a key command to go to the next marker. I got this to work, i.e. when I play my project now, it successfully skips two areas I want it to skip, which have markers on them. It's a little jumpy, though, meaning that when it skips, it doesn't quite remain in time with the metronome. There is a lag. This may be because my mac is 12 years old, and with a newer machine, the skips would be seamless. Or should it be seamless, regardless of the machine? But what I have is still useful. However, this happens in real time, so Logic does not know that it should prepare everything for a seamless jump. It's best to actually cut out sections you want to skip, and move them to bar 1000+ for later use.

Wonshu means moving the regions to store to the far right of the Tracks area, past the end of the regions actually used for the project.
oscwilde
Why not pack the unused stuff into a folder and drag it to the bottom of the track list, then rename the folder "For Later"?
