Morerecords
most people are boycotting Waves products for their business practices and poor ethics with regard to investigating pirated versions of their softwares. see banpiracy.org createdigitalmusic.com futuremusic.com or just google "waves" + "bastards"
musick
You'll need an iLok, it's a very common security device also used by Digidesign and many others.

Waves plugins are in almost all pro audio and post facilities. And I don't blame them to go after illegal copies, what would you do if e.g. everybody was making nice tracks with your sample library without paying you? Nobody forces you to use Waves! musick
There is a boycott on all iLok product because the software manufacturers cannot provide and technical support for these iLoks, and iLok and Pace do not offer tech support on the wares. The boycott was started by another software company, audio damage. I call something a boycot when consumers do not buy, not when a compatitor is unhappy
dkgross
a lot of people have stopped buying WAVES because of the expense..Lots of other products that do just as good of a job, for a lot less $$. THAT being said. I love my Gold Bundle and Restoration Bundle...
wip
so any recommended Waves alternatives then? i'm mainly looking for good bundles and something like Waves TransX, which you unfortunately have to buy the whole transform bundle to get your hands on
Morerecords
I've never used them, but Izotope is the supposed alternative
