calvin200001
Can someone discuss how to put together a good soundtrack reel? In case you wanted to apply for a job in the music industry, I know doing this right is very important. So does anyone have any tips? calvin200001
ok, well i was told from a few people that what you should to is find some commercials on the net, strip their audio and re-write the music for them and then make that your reel (if you dont have any stuff yet). Is that a good or bad idea?
JoeAMP
Doing that would be copyright infringement, and is that the way to start your career? May be a remix from a song, that would emphasise your arrangement, mixing and production technique. Either way good luck.
calvin200001
would it be copy write infringement if you never planned on using them for anything else besides showing your ability to put music to film?
David Nahmani
would it be copy write infringement if you never planned on using them for anything else besides showing your ability to put music to film? Yes. Any unauthorized use of copyrighted material is copyright infringement. All you have to do to avoid it is to ask first. Note that if you only do a VHS copy to show to a couple of potential employers it's one thing. But if you put it online or send it to a bunch of directors you're asking for trouble. I would try getting in touch with young directors who wouldn't mind authorizing you to use their footage for your own promotional use. Even for example film students doing fake commercials for school... anything like that should work!
