Wave15
Can someone who own an AMT8 please help? I just bought an Emagic AMT8 which came without the power supply. I think it needs 9 v AC and 900 ma. What I like to know is the polarity of the power supply . Does anyone know? Thank you
ski
Since it's an AC, polarity shouldn't matter. P.S. I just checked both of my adapters and there's no polarity indication, which makes sense.
Wave15
Thank you Sky, i appreciate you taking the time to check the adapters. I just plugged in the AMT8 an old 9 V with 500ma adapter ( instead of the 900ma recomended) which shows the positive outside, negative inside, and the unit goes on fine. Could the lower ma be a problem?
ski
Hi Wave15, The lower amperage rating could be a problem. Sometimes adapters are deliberately over-spec'd so that there's a guarantee that they'll be enough juice to power a unit; however, sometimes they're spec'd to be right on the edge. So I'd play it safe and try to find a 900mA AC adapter. If your adapter shows a polarity indication, I'd be wary that it's a DC adapter and not AC. Can you double-check this? If it's DC I wouldn't recommend using it. In the event you find an appropriate adapter but the amperage rating is higher, that's OK. The AMT will only suck as much juice from it as it needs. But if you have a lower-amperage adapter (like the 500 ma you're using) you run the risk that the unit will try to suck more juice than the supply can deliver. Best case here is that the adapter overheats. Worst case is that the adapter fries and worstestest* case, takes out your AMT along with it. * Ski's grammatical advice 101: when you run out of superlatives and are too lazy to use a thesaurus, add "estest" to the end of a word. Example: bestestest, interestingestest, incorrectestest.
