skip Posted March 29, 2006 Share Posted March 29, 2006 Don't know if this is old news but I stumbled on this way of working the other night. I truly love working in Logic but sometimes I miss that PT Audiosuite style of processing regions of audio. I know you can bounce the region in Logic and then import it back into the session but what a pain. So I set PT as my external audio editor. Next I open PT to a brand new session. Note its important to set the bit and file type to exactlly the same as the Logic session. Then in PT make sure in your preferences you have deselected "Automatically Copy Files on Import", this will point PT to work off of the orginal file in the Logic song audio folder. Now go back into Logic select the region you what to effect and press the External Audio Editor Keycommand. Now that region should open up in the PT audio bin. The file path should show that the file is still located in the Logic audio folder. Its important when you pull up the audiosuite menu that you select "overwrite file" and switch from "playlist" to "region list". When you go to process the audiosuite plugin you will get a prompt making sure that you want to overwrite the existing file. Hit continue and the region should be updated when you click back over to Logic. You have to use Audiosuite in destructive mode because you want it to change the orginal audio file back in the Logic audio folder, otherwise it would create a new file in the PT audio folder that you would then have to import back into Logic, which is not what you want. If done correctly there shouldn't be anything in the PT audio folder when you are done. So far it's been pretty cool having back some of those PT only plugs without having to spend the bucks for an HD system. Skip Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'm still using Logic Pro 7.1 and ProTools LE 6.9 and can confirm Davids tip regarding earlier versions, this works great! The only problem I have now is that my MBox 1 is my only audio interface on this machine, and I can't have both PT and Logic access it simultaneously If this is an oversight on my part someone please step in, as I'd love to make use of this function, but switching between built-in audio and the MBox makes it a bit long winded to get used regularly. skip Posted August 8, 2006 Author Share Posted August 8, 2006 I do use Protools and Logic. What I meant was that with the Mbox you can only use one application at a time. So if I use the Mbox with Protools then I cannot use the Mbox as Logic's audio interface. Unlike my Motu 896 HD, where I can use multiple applications at the same time. greenman Posted December 1, 2006 Share Posted December 1, 2006 hmm, when you dont use digidesign hardware as main audio interface, you need a second audio interface anyway as pro tools wont play through a non digi interface btw. those mbox problems are not there with mbox2 as far as i know i still wonder why logic sample editor talks of audio suites..... when exactly cant those be in the logic sample editor itself. only with tdm? the manual says its possible with dae but obviously not. maybe its hidden somewhere.
