Transpose Notes on Input Environment

Recommended Posts

From this thread, here's a simple environment which will let you transpose incoming notes over a range of -12 to +12 semitones. The transposition is adjusted using an environment-based slider, located in the Clicks & Ports layer. This scheme simply transposes notes coming into Logic. It has no effect on any other kind of MIDI data.

The only caveat here is that you not play notes while moving the slider. Otherwise you will generate stuck notes. There is a remedy for this which involves extra programming in the environment. But that programming would be way more complicated than the transposition feature itself! So just abide by that one caveat and you will have no problems at all.

If anyone's interested in how this operates under the hood, post back and I'll explain.

Installation

Go into the Environment's Clicks & Ports layer of your song. Assuming you don't have any custom programming in that layer already, delete everything in that layer. Then open this song, open its C&P layer, select all, cmd-C copy. Close this song. Then go back to your original song's C&P layer and cmd-V paste.
