lordtom
I just bot some firewire cases with 2 FW800 ports, 1 400 port and 1 usb2 port. I took some maxtor hard drives from some usb cases and put them in the new case however when I plug in either the 400 or the 800 fw port, my mac tries to initialize the drives but when connected to the usb2 port in the same new case, the drive is ok..... Need help asap.. Thanks
David Nahmani
Sounds like your computer is not recognizing the FW chipset in your new box. Have you tried the same box with another drive?
lordtom
Thanks david.. Yes, I tried it on another g5 with the same results.. In disk utility it says Oxfored Semiconductor, I'm not sure if that makes any sense Thanks
David Nahmani
Yes, that's the name of your chipset, so it does recognize it... not sure why it wants to initialize the disk then. I'd try to get another box.
lordtom
I have 3 and I get the same results. They're made by SIIG.. THANKS
David Nahmani
If you have anything else firewire on the mac I would unplug it. Then I would try all the different FW ports on the mac (some of them might not work?). If this all fails, call the company that makes the boxes.
