Playback Mystery Pause

I just wanted to relay the issue we had whilst using MainStage 2 at a recent concert.

We've been looking for an all-in-one solution like MainStage for quite some time, and loved version 1, quirks and all. When version 2 came out, we saw that it had the potential of being even more useful.

A bit of background: we're a four piece band that all play keyboards, manipulate synths, play theremins, and generally harangue about. Well, not so much haranguing, but anyway. Five MIDI keyboard controllers controlling four to six different synths at a time, along with two mics (sometimes for singing, mostly for vocoding), and a theremin. And, as of MainStage 2, Playback.

So we spent the better half of the past two months rebuilding our set for MainStage 2, re-assigning and streamlining, and most of all, practicing. Night of the show comes, everything is running smoothly. Until the last song. This is when something weird happens. The Playback pauses itself. Now, the only trigger on the Playback is full stop and play. No pausing. But that's what it does. Not only does it pause, it starts up again, then pauses. It's doing this to the beat of the song! Luckily, we were able to improv our way through it without missing anything, but it's still mysterious. I'm thinking it might have been cross talk in the MIDI or something. All the MIDI is running through a MOTU micro lite, or USB directly into the laptop (dual 2GHz MacBook with 4GB RAM, 300GB 7200RPM HD). So therein lies the story/mystery.

I just had a similar occurrence. Playback wouldn't start, nor would Ultrabeat loops. Then about 20 seconds later both suddenly started playing.

 

Weird.
