My3rdGradeShirt
So I'm a bit confused how volume Hyper Draw works on audio regions. I have a track volume automation of 0db, then for the region, the hyper volume event is set to -3db. 2 things: - When the playhead gets to the end of the region the volume does not go back to 0db (track automation) - If I start the playhead in mid-region the hyper draw volume info is not read (stays at 0db), it only is read if the playhead passes over the beginning of the region. Is this the correct behavior or am I missing something? How do you change the volume for just a region without editing the audio or the track automation? Jordi Torres
When both RBA and TBA exist, they will fight each other. It's not pretty. Because you're firing controller 7 data from both track-based automation and region-based automation (hyperdraw). Use the gain parameter in the region parameters box to adjust the region's volume. J. My3rdGradeShirt
Good idea. But what if I want to create an odd shaped envelope?
Jordi Torres
Good idea. But what if I want to create an odd shaped envelope? You could try a combination of hyperdraw and an automated gain plugin. J.
My3rdGradeShirt
It's kind of weird that hyper draw envelopes interfere with track automation. I understand why from your explanation but it seems like a design flaw. Too bad there's not a way to automate the gain region parameter.
Jordi Torres
It's kind of weird that hyper draw envelopes interfere with track automation. No it isn't, that's expected since both track automation and hyperdraw are sending volume data....MIDI controller number 7. J.
My3rdGradeShirt
Right, but wouldn't it seem more logical to NOT send the same controller #? Or at least be able to use the hyper draw envelope to +/- a percentage of the current volume (like the gain region parameter, only with nodes). Jordi Torres
That's why I suggested automating a gain plugin to control the track's overall volume, while using hyperdraw for the region. This way there will no interference between the two since automating the gain plugin deals with Logic's own fader events (not MIDI volume events). J.
