TRUN
Hello Guys.. quick question....Is there a performance advantage (track counts, disk I/O, etc) to tracking to an external Firewire 400/7200rpm drive as oppose to tracking to an external USB 2.0 7200rpm drive? thanks for the insight and direction.... ballpein
I think it depends a lot on your system (usb / firewire hardware / drives, and the hardwire on your ext drive) but in my experience firewire is more reliable and consistent, less prone to dropouts etc. One of my externals is dual USB2/FW400, and I've never been able to get it to reliably capture / record via USB... again, though, that could be more about the vagaries of hardware and whatnot than the USB standard itself. Be careful of the external drive you get, though, because OS X seems to have trouble recognizing some firewire drives.
