lupin
It means that instead of the audio that the plugin is being applied to conrolling that plugin, a different one that you specify does. This signal comes in through the sidechain.
majool
In other words, you can 'trigger' or 'key' any sidechain capable plug-in on a track from a source other than the sound on the track you've got the plug-in on. Most common example would be 'ducking' a bass line down a few decibels everytime the kick drum hits. Put a compressor on your bass track. Select the track with your kick drum to be the 'sidechain' input on the compressor on the bass track. Everytime your kick hits it triggers the compressor and 'ducks' the bass down in level. There are many other uses for sidechains in logic. If you want to use a software instrument as the sidechain source you'll need to route the instrument to a bus since you'll notice that 'audio instrument' objects are not available as sidechain sources. Have fun!
