KeirPC
Hi all, Ive had a quick squiz around online and the general consensus is that this isnt really possible, but hear me out. Im trying to remix 'Stranger in Moscow' and the bits with the chords/vox I want to use have drums over the top which clash with my D+B riddims. HOWEVER - since in another part of the track we have just the drums on their own, surely it would be possible using software, to overlay the drums to the track with both drums and chords, and somehow create a 'negative' drumtrack - effectively subtracting the drum bits from the soundwave? I realise that in application this would probably not sound perfect and would need tweakable options etc, but does anyone know of a program that at least lets you attempt this? All help gratefully received. If I pull it off you can all download my badass MJ remix for FREE - that's right!
fuzzfilth
You can do it within Logic. Line up both Regions sample accurately and invert the phase on one of them. Will take some work and might not work. But worth a try if you have time to kill. Christian
KeirPC
Cheers! In the meantime I sidechained a compressor on the main track from the drums - sounds kind of ok, but 'll give this a go. Your Mac sounds pretty good

Metatool
wasn't there a link to another thread on this topic?
fuzzfilth
Well, did you try what I suggested 9 years ago ?
Metatool
haha ! Yes, I didn't really understand it at first but as soon as I opened up a session it dawned on my and it was simple. Pretty powerful effect as it cancelled all of the bass, all of the lead vocals except for a faint reverb and about 95% of the drum volume. Metatool
I'm now wondering if there is a way to bring some of the lead and bass back, but maybe I should actually give it a go before asking....lol.
