barrettrm
How important is it to record my files to an external drive? I'm on a PB 1.67mhz and I have a Lacie external drive. I think I heard that it's always a good idea to record and save to an external drive and I'm looking for confirmation of that. Also, if I've already recorded a few tracks to my local drive, can I just move those over or will the song not recognize where i've moved the tracks. Thanks for any advice! -Mo
David Nahmani
It will increase your track count and overall performance, and generate less wear and tear on the OS drive. Depending on what you are doing, the single internal might be enough, but for serious multi-track recording or for intensive use of Sample Libraries an external, faster (7,200rpm) drive is almost a must. barrettrm
Thanks for the info. Does a Lacie 160 GB firewire drive sound about right?
dkgross
I agree with David. As a rule, I NEVER record to the internal drive. The only exception is that if you only have ONE external drive (and yes, that LaCie will work just fine...I've got three of the 250 gig ones), then go ahead and do your final mix bounce BACK to your internal drive. the point being, never bounce your mix back to the same drive your track data is on.
