aleos
I have a new project that I have to score. It's a news documentary for television. About some ex gang members I've never done a news-ish, dialog FULL show like this. Anyone have experience or point me in the direction of some quality examples. I know what sound I'm going for, and the instruments in use, but I'm having a little difficult time navigating my way through the minefield of constant dialog. I don't want to overuse the low-string-drone. thanks for any input. A
ViolaGhost
I don't have straight up answers for you, but I have read lots of great books that really discuss the ins-and-outs of scoring technique. Two that I wholly recommend are: 1) On The Track: http://www.amazon.com/Track-Guide-Contemporary-Film-Scoring/dp/0415941369/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1301528933&sr=1-1 2) Complete Guide to Film Scoring: http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Guide-Film-Scoring-Berklee/dp/0876391099/ref=pd_sim_b_1 If this is a real gig that matters to you, it might not hurt to invest into one of these books. The second is very friendly and easy to read; the first REALLY covers all the technique. Sorry if you were looking for more personal experience, I wish I had more to share! As far as I know the two main approaches are to quietly score throughout, or to have music come in softly between the characters speaking. Personally, I'd quietly underscore.
