cornelius
I've started creating IR's for Space Designer, which works well with short bursts of noise as Impulses. How can I convolve using a Sine Sweep tone? My tone lasts @ 15 seconds, so I always end up with a long reverb that sweeps through the frequency range (as the tone does). I can find no way of deconvolving this that results in a 'normal' ambience. Anyone done this?
carrierandoperator
Yes - I have. The same rules apply... you are trimming your samples' heads? 15s is a very long sweep, IR length and sample rate are the most significant computational requirements for SD. SVK made a tutorial for this using clicks - which woeks for most sources. Are you applying any additioanl processing?
David Nahmani
You have to use deconvolution on sine sweeps... search the plug-in reference manual for 'deconvolution', you should find a clear explanation...
cornelius
Thanks for the replies. Yep, I am deconvolving these impulses. I have had good results using clicks & noise bursts, taking care to trim samples, match rates, etc. I guess my main problem is finding a sweep tone 20Hz-20kHz that's long enough to 'excite' the space but short enough to be usable. The time element is the problem. I'll try a faster sweep. Incidentally, SD is a great tool to create environments - 'sonic signatures' - to impose on sound sources. I find I'm using fewer presets & just create my own dynamics, preamps, etc.
