Odd Logic 9 MIDI latency problem

I've recently switched to Logic 9 on a 17" Macbook Pro Quad 2.3 w/8 gigs RAM.

 

I'm getting a strange MIDI latency when running external synths with local control off, like my Prophet 08.

 

When playing the just keys, MIDI is fine.

 

But when the keys are being played (and/or triggered by the sequencer), there's extreme latency on all the knobs being turned. Like a quarter to half a second, for example, between when I turn the filter knob and when it effects the sound. Moving the knobs also chokes up the MIDI notes being played.

 

When the controllers are sequenced, it runs fine, but if I'm physically turning the knobs in real time, everything goes off.

 

Any ideas?
