Adding drum samples to existing tracks

Hi Guys,

 

I have just recorded a kit of drums, using 10 microphones in Logic 8 and am wondering how I can add a track of sampled snare and kick to the existing kick and snare tracks?

 

I have found a couple of nice samples in Battery 3 but am not sure how to add them.

 

I have recently tried copying the snare and kick track, then editing in the samples on a new track, directly above the original tracks. This allows for very precise cutting but is quite time consuming. Is there another method to do this?

I would upgrade to logic 9 if possible. It has transient detection and a drum replacement feature to automate what you are trying to do.

Thanks very much for your quick reply. I am saving up to upgrade to 9 but was wondering if there's any way to do it in 8?

If you beatmap your performance accurately first, then you can snap edit for slicing, placement, etc.

You could always try your hand at "Audio to Score" in the sample editor... but all of this has been cleaned up a lot in Logic 9 which makes the process much easier.
