Peaman
Right, so i'm building a sample pack sourcing sound from tape cassettes. I've been recording in full tracks and there's a lot a lot of audio going into this project. My issue is that using the scissor tool to split rough chunks out of the audio duplicates the audio track which, as it stands is almost an hour long so every time i cut its adding another hours worth of audio into the project. it's gonna clog up my memory preettttyyy fast! is there a way of setting up the scissor tool or some other method whereby i can quickly cut the file without duplication?? triplets
I don't understand your problem. You cut a file and you get duplicates??
Rev. Juda Sleaze
Scissor tool shouldn't be creating new audio files, just creating aliases in the audio bin. Do new files turn up in the audio files project folder? Is there gaps between the audio? If there is, the "strip silence" function could save you a lot of editing. Peaman
i'll try to clarify. when you use the scissor tool to cut one audio file, it doubles the whole audio file in the audio bin, for example if you make a cut, you can still drag each side of the file out exposing more of the file. I want to make a cut and genuinely split that single audio file into two pieces!

Peaman
wooo, yeah they are aliases! one of those stupid things i've been worried about for years lol! thanks both of you, mad fast response
Rev. Juda Sleaze
Ok, but don't worry, the scissor tool isn't creating new audio files, so you're not in danger of filling up your HDD. Once you've done your edits, select all the regions, ctrl-click on them and convert to new audio files.

Peaman
and yeah the strip silence function isn't the thing for this, theres heaps of lovely saturated tape noise which i'm sampling too. thanks again

Good luck dawg!
