Audio Cutting Out on 2 Projects

Matthew Anthony

Recommended Posts

My audio is cutting out in roughly (but not exactly) the same spot on my track each time I play it. The only way to get it back is to "apply changes" in the audio preferences pane (without actually making a change)

CPU and HD meters look fine, I haven't changed any audio parameters for years. Hmmmm

The only thing I can do to sort of, but not really, diagnose the problem is mute or solo tracks 1 by 1. Even this has proven to be useless as sometimes, logic reacts, to this troubleshooting method and other times not.

I'm lost.... I attached a screenshot in hopes it will help you

I see that you are using the built-in interface.

Have you tried opening the Audio MIDI Setup application and setting it's output to 24-bit?

Thanks, I've been troubleshooting on both my Onyx interface and the built in audio.

I've also noticed, just now, that the audio is cutting out, even when NOTHING is playing.... I can tell because there's an audible click coming through on the speakers, as if some sort of preference is being changed on its own.

Looking at your first screenshot (of your Audio Prefs in Logic) I see you have NOT selected the Onyx as your I/O device......... but instead you are using the built in Audio. Any reason?

Troubleshooting.... I've been trying to play the track using both the Onyx and the Built in output... that screenshot was taken when I was troubleshooting with Built in Audio.

It seems like there's something within my tracks themselves triggering this error. If i mute certain tracks, it eliminates the problem, but only some of the time. I'm simply trying to bounce this out, so as I continue to troubleshoot, I will try freezing one by one.

As part of the troubleshooting......

If you use your internal audio (Set to internal in both Logic and Audio/Midi prefs) and you listen to YouTube.. do you get the same issue? (To eliminate Logic and your Onyx Drivers) If you do then something has messed up in your OS X...

Do you get the same issue in Logic if you use just the internal audio? (Set to Internal in your Audio/Midi Prefs to eliminate the Onyx Drivers) If you don't then it's likely to be an Onyx issue

Everything runs fine outside of logic. This problem also happened a couple months ago on another project before I had the Onyx

i get the same issue using both Onyx and Internal

Ok.. One other thing comes to mind..

When you said you turned off your plugins.. did you simply turn them off (Bypass) or did you remove them from the project?

You need to remove them and not turn them off, from the project, one by one, to test for an iffy plugin...

Just save the project and then try deleting each track individually (but reloading the project each time so you have the previously deleted track back in there so long as it doesn't contain the same plugins as are in the track you are about to delete) until the issue stops..

Start with your 3rd party plugins... Instruments and FX plugins..as they are most likely culprits..

Hopefully you will then be able to identify the 'villain' ..

I removed all AU components from the Plug-Ins and Applications folders. They appeared in Logics Mixer with a diagonal slash. I clicked and selected No Plug-in.

Problem persisted.

I started deleting tracks until the song played smoothly. I thought I had it, so bounced the project....

Problem persisted.

This is what the bounce looks like

It might be your Onyx itself, has an issue with this version of Logic.... Probably a good idea to contact them or visit their support forum and see if anyone else is having a similar issue..

As it is 'driverless' then I don't know why you would have this issue unless it is an issue that has suddenly developed with your Onyx and it's just coincidence.. Seems unlikely though... Best hope at this time is to find a 9.1.5 dmg and go back...

The dmg you want is named....

LogicPro9.1.5Update.dmg

Googling that file name turns up a few of them around.. but how 'safe' they are.. is hard to say...

FINALLY figured it out. It was some wacked out effect routing. A buss was somehow receiving a feedback loop signal from one of my channels and it kept compounding on itself, getting luder and luoder... however I had the channel muted so didn't see the lights, or hear the feedback loop. This was somehow triggering logic to stop playing audio.

I fixed it by removing the signal routing.

DONE and THANK YOU to everyone... you helped me to stay on top of it all day!
