combination audio in/out port on macbook pro

Recommended Posts

The macbook pro I just got is supposed to have a combination in/out port but when I try to record from a line in, there's nothing. From the computers preferences the only option is "built in mic" and same when I try the drop downs in logic and audacity.. just called apple and they were trying to tell me to download drivers for the sony minidisc machine I'm trying to record from..

Has anyone used the side port for a line in on their new macbook? any help is appreciated

Which macbook pro is it exactly?

The one with only one audio connection. :P

Seems like you will have to get used to switching settings, or get an interface.

I asked because according to the specs, the new 13" MBP's don't have a line in. It's just an headphone output:

it's strange Jordito.. I saw that too, but when I got mine I was looking at this

http://store.apple.com/us-hed/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_pro/select

and it says in/out for the specs.. plus the book that came with my computer labels it as an in/out drive. but I've got the 13" 2.9ghz.. it's really kind of a drag the new "pro" computers don't have what used to be standard even on the old regular books.

but in response to shiver, I wouldn't mind switching settings but it doesn't even give me an option for line in.. I've got interfaces at home and will stick to those for serious stuff, but that little input comes in handy when I'm at work and need to do a quick transfer from an analog source and don't really need the best quality.

Thanks for the replies, apple says it should work as an input so I'll take it to the store today

I suppose you have to use wireless internet too? No migration assistant?

I have used the optical input on my macbook which makes bypassing the interface a joy.

I would seriously look into exchanging it to suit your needs.
